Job Description

UCSF is seeking an IT LIS/Beaker Supervisor to provide strategic, technical, and operational leadership for the Epic Beaker Clinical Pathology (CP) and Anatomic Pathology (AP) application teams.

This position oversees the planning, design, implementation, optimization, maintenance, and support of Beaker laboratory information systems. The Supervisor partners closely with Laboratory, Pathology, Clinical Operations, IT leadership, Epic application teams, vendors, and third-party interface partners to translate clinical and operational requirements into scalable, compliant, and efficient technology solutions.

The role serves as a subject matter expert for Epic Beaker and provides leadership across application governance, system lifecycle management, release planning, change control, production support, issue escalation, testing, upgrades, regulatory readiness, system integrations, application performance, and continuous process improvement.

The IT LIS/Beaker Supervisor also manages and develops a high-performing team of Beaker analysts through performance management, workforce planning, scheduling, coaching, mentoring, resource allocation, and professional development. The Supervisor establishes team priorities, monitors service levels and operational metrics, promotes cross-training and knowledge sharing, and builds strong partnerships with operational stakeholders to support reliable 24/7 application operations and strategic laboratory initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in healthcare information technology, computer science, or a related area, and/or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience designing, building, implementing, and supporting Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) applications in an acute care hospital or integrated health system environment.
At least 3 years of supervisory/management experience and/or experience leading complex enterprise healthcare IT initiatives.
Epic Beaker Clinical Pathology (CP) certification.
Advanced knowledge of clinical applications software development.
Advanced knowledge of Clinical Communications hardware and software.
Availability for 24/7 application support.
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and supervise a technical team while managing complex workflows and multiple priorities.
Strong knowledge of clinical application operations, including methods, concepts, policies, procedures, programming, development, deployment, testing, training, troubleshooting, operating systems, medical terminology, and clinical workflows and processes.
Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to quickly assess problems, determine the appropriate level of intervention, and develop effective solutions.
Advanced interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with IT professionals, clinicians, customers, staff, and vendors.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate complex technical information to staff, management, and clinical application end users.

Required Certification

Epic Beaker Clinical Pathology (CP)

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience at UCSF Health, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, or another academic medical center.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior management on operational and policy matters, gather data, and prepare and present reports on departmental operations and performance.
Strong knowledge of human resources practices and policies, including training, monitoring, evaluating, and documenting staff activities and performance.
Certified Lab Specialist (CLS) or equivalent license.
Epic Beaker Anatomic Pathology (AP) certification.
