Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; seasonally Saturday, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Heavy Equipment/Tractor Technician to join our team in Powhatan.
The Technician will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining outdoor power equipment such as riding lawn mowers, push mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, generators, water pumps, Dingos, Ventrac, Kubota products & implements, and other small engine machinery. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering excellent service and proper handling of merchandise. This position requires successful completion of a background check.
Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:
· Diagnose, repair, and install new parts or whole goods on motorized power equipment/small engines and outdoor power equipment, including two-stroke and four-stroke engines and diesel engines.
· Provide accurate documentation of cause and corrections
· Perform routine preventative maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, blade sharpening, belt replacement, and tune-ups.
· Test equipment following repairs to ensure safe and reliable performance
· Assemble new equipment and ensure proper operation before delivery, Perform PDI Inspections to manufacturer specs.
· Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and fuel-system issues, disassembling, repairing, replacing or reassembling engines and transmissions.
· Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and service performed.
· Provide exceptional customer service by communicating effectively with customers and Service Manager/Writer/Staff/Manager
· Maintain clean, safe and organized workspace
· Follow all OSHA regulations to adhere to safety protocols
· Maintain tools and report any issues to management
· Participate in ongoing training
· Ensure compliance with safety standards and proper handling of tools and equipment.
· Keep the work area clean and tools organized.
· Assist with shop movement, cleaning and general maintenance of company equipment.
· Other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
· Proven experience in diagnosing and repairing small engines, generators, chainsaws, electrical systems, and outdoor power equipment.
· Experience with hydraulic systems and battery powered equipment
· Knowledge of 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines
· Read and interpret schematics to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues.
· Ability to read service manuals and parts diagrams
· Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, carburetors, fuel injection, and electrical components.
· Excellent problem-solving skills that coincide with mechanical and electrical diagnostics
· Maintain all necessary certifications
· Basic knowledge of most equipment functions
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to work in a team environment and maintain a positive attitude
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
· Ability to prioritize tasks
· Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
· Basic computer skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
· Knowledge of how to properly run Tractors, Compact Track Loaders, Mini Excavators and the attachments used on various equipment.
· Knowledge of properly lifting and jacking heavy equipment using jack stands, lifts, chain falls, etc.
· Other duties, as assigned by management.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with leading brands (e.g., Hustler, Toro, STIHL, Kubota).
- Familiarity with dealership parts systems and ordering processes
Tools, Systems & Equipment Used:
· Hand tools, including wrenches, sockets, ratchets, screwdrivers, pliers, and torque wrenches
· Power tools such as impact drivers, drills, and grinders
· Multimeters and test lights for electrical troubleshooting
· Compression testers and leak-down testers
· Tire mounting and inflation equipment
· Lift, jack, and hoists for riding and zero-turn mowers
· Battery testing and charging equipment

· Kubota Diagnostics software, Hydraulic flow testers, Dyno, and other special tools required by Kubota to properly diagnose equipment
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent PREFFERED
· At least two years’ related experience required
· Must be at least 18 years of age
· Required and expected to become Certified and obtain Advanced level training in assigned categories.
Work Environment:
· Exposure to varying weather conditions
· Noise levels may vary due to running equipment in service areas
· Must adhere to all safety protocols when driving, handling and/or demonstrating equipment
· Regular exposure to dust, fumes, grease, gas, oil, and other airborne particles commonly found in a repair setting.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to safely lift, carry and move up to 75 pounds, regularly lifting up to 50 pounds
· Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move heavy machines.
· Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, lying, climbing, and reaching to handle equipment
· Must be able to stand for extended period of time
· Manual dexterity to operate equipment controls
· Ability to maneuver equipment
Travel:
This role may be temporarily assigned to an alternate location, as business needs demand
Other duties:
· May require occasional overtime during peak seasons
