Full Job Description

Registered Peer Recovery Specialist (RPRS)

Star City Behavioral Health is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and recovery-oriented Registered Peer Recovery Specialist (RPRS) to join our team. The RPRS will use their lived experience to provide peer support, recovery education, mentorship, and advocacy to individuals receiving substance use treatment. This position plays an essential role in creating a safe, recovery-focused environment while helping clients build the skills and support systems necessary for long-term recovery.

Responsibilities

Provide peer support and mentorship by sharing lived recovery experience to inspire hope and promote recovery.
Conduct client intakes, including required documentation, searches, and urine drug screens in accordance with agency policies.
Notify the appropriate clinical staff of concerns identified during the intake process that require follow-up.
Provide scheduled and as-needed transportation to and from treatment and recovery housing using agency vehicles.
Provide supervision and support to clients before, during, and after programming, including monitoring common areas such as hallways, parking lots, and shared spaces.
Facilitate and co-facilitate peer recovery groups.
Assist clients in identifying community resources that support recovery, housing, employment, education, and wellness.
Complete accurate and timely electronic documentation.
Maintain professional boundaries while adhering to the Peer Recovery Specialist Code of Ethics.
Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary treatment team.
Perform other duties within the scope of the Registered Peer Recovery Specialist role.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a Registered Peer Recovery Specialist (RPRS) in good standing with the Virginia Board of Counseling.
Must be eligible to work in a DBHDS-licensed behavioral health program.
Valid Virginia driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Must successfully pass a criminal background investigation and Fieldprint fingerprint screening.
Basic computer skills and experience with electronic health records/documentation.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries while appropriately utilizing lived experience.
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Reliable, organized, and able to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in substance use treatment or behavioral health.
Experience facilitating peer recovery groups.
Knowledge of community recovery resources.
Experience working in ASAM Level 2.5, ASAM Level 3.1, or other substance use treatment settings is preferred.

Schedule

Full-time
Evening and weekend availability required.
Holiday coverage may be required based on program needs.
