We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Safety Specialist to support our electrical utility operations and promote a strong culture of workplace safety. This position will work closely with field employees, supervisors, contractors, and management to identify hazards, ensure compliance with applicable safety requirements, conduct training and inspections, and support continuous improvement of our safety programs.
The ideal candidate has experience in construction, electrical utility, industrial, or field safety and is comfortable working around electrical infrastructure, energized equipment, utility crews, and active job sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine field safety inspections, observations, audits, and jobsite assessments.
- Identify unsafe conditions, behaviors, and potential hazards and work with supervisors and employees to implement corrective actions.
- Support compliance with applicable Cal/OSHA and OSHA regulations, ANSI standards, NFPA requirements, and National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements.
- Support electrical safe-work practices consistent with applicable NFPA 70E requirements.
- Assist with electrical hazard assessments, including shock, arc-flash, energized equipment, and appropriate PPE requirements.
- Participate in Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), tailboard/pre-job meetings, and other job-planning activities.
- Support Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and hazardous energy control procedures.
- Monitor proper selection, use, inspection, and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist with fall protection, ladder safety, confined-space, excavation/trenching, vehicle, equipment, and material-handling safety programs as applicable.
- Conduct and coordinate employee safety training, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
- Assist with incident, injury, near-miss, and property-damage investigations, including root-cause analysis and corrective-action tracking.
- Maintain accurate safety records, inspection documentation, training records, and regulatory documentation.
- Assist with development, implementation, and periodic review of company safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Track corrective actions and follow up with responsible departments to ensure timely completion.
- Support contractor safety compliance and conduct contractor/jobsite safety observations as required.
- Stay current on changes to applicable safety regulations and industry standards.
- Promote a positive safety culture and encourage employees to proactively identify and communicate hazards.
- Work collaboratively with operations, management, HR, and field personnel to address safety concerns.
- Perform other safety-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of occupational safety experience preferred, ideally within electrical utilities, construction, electrical contracting, industrial operations, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA and OSHA regulations.
- Familiarity with applicable ANSI, NFPA, NEC, and electrical utility safety standards and requirements.
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E Electrical Safety in the Workplace and electrical hazard recognition preferred.
- Understanding of LOTO/hazardous energy control, PPE, fall protection, confined spaces, and other common field-safety programs.
- Ability to recognize electrical and general workplace hazards and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, and employee training.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with field employees, supervisors, contractors, and management.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain accurate and confidential safety documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field locations/job sites as required.
Preferred Certifications & Training
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction or General Industry
- NFPA 70E Electrical Safety training
- First Aid/CPR/AED
- OSHA 510 or equivalent occupational safety training
- ASP (Associate Safety Professional), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), or similar professional safety credential is a plus
- Additional electrical utility or high-voltage safety training is a plus
Physical & Field Requirements
- Ability to regularly visit active field and construction sites.
- Ability to walk over uneven terrain and work in varying outdoor weather conditions.
- Ability to wear required PPE while on job sites.
- Ability to safely work in proximity to electrical utility operations and equipment while following established minimum approach distances and other safety requirements.
- Some travel between company facilities and project locations may be required.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $68,000.00 per year
