Position Summary
Plant McIntosh is seeking highly skilled, multidiscipline candidates for a General Plant Operator (GPO) to operate and maintain our Combined Cycle power plant in Rincon, GA. The General Plant Operator (GPO) is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our combined cycle units. This position monitors and operates plant equipment, responds to changing system conditions, performs routine inspections, supports maintenance activities, and helps ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. The GPO works closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and planning personnel to maximize plant performance, reliability, and availability.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues in a fast-paced industrial environment. The position requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a continuous focus on operational excellence and plant reliability. Responsibilities include equipment monitoring, plant rounds, alarm response, documentation, lockout/tagout administration, maintenance support, outage support, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance plant performance and efficiency.
Plant McIntosh Combined Cycle is located in Rincon, GA, in Effingham County, and helps meet growing customer demand for electricity in the Southeast. Current complement is two natural gas-fired combined cycle units, each capable of generating approximately 700 megawatts each. Each CC unit consists of two GE 7FA combustion turbines, two HRSGs, and one Alstom steam turbine. The McIntosh Combined Cycle facility is located within the larger Plant McIntosh site, which also includes the McIntosh CT facility, featuring eight ABB simple-cycle combustion turbines, and the 10 MW McIntosh Solar facility.
Main Job Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor power plant equipment and systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Follow all safety procedures and promote a strong safety culture.
- Perform routine plant inspections, equipment rounds, and operational checks.
- Respond to alarms, abnormal conditions, and operational events.
- Execute plant startup, shutdown, and switching activities in accordance with approved procedures.
- Maintain accurate operating logs, reports, and shift turnover communications.
- Support preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and outage activities.
- Administer and support Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and other safe work practices.
- Identify equipment issues, troubleshoot problems, and document findings through plant work management systems.
Support plant reliability, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Requirements
Education and Experience
- High School Graduate or Equivalent required.
- 2-Year College/Technical Degree or Equivalent Military Training preferred
- Experience operating combustion turbine, combined cycle, fossil steam boiler-turbine is highly desired.
- Experience in industrial electrical and mechanical maintenance or certified training is desired. 5+ years of experience is highly desired.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to learn how to independently operate a combined cycle plant.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Excellent communication and problem solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong mechanical and electrical maintenance aptitude such as troubleshooting and repairing equipment.
- Ability to follow procedures and checklists for critical activities such as unit startups and shutdowns.
- Ability to use a computer and handheld electronics.
- Self-starting and motivated to organize work.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other personnel and craft.
- Ability to work in complex and stressful situations.
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing work conditions.
- Ability to support a 24/7 shift schedule, including night, weekend, holiday, and overtime work.
- Ability to perform duties using personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes hard hats, ear and ear protection, safety toe shoes, gloves, and other appropriate gear.
Must be able to work in difficult environments including and not limited to: confined spaces, extreme hot and cold temperatures, indoor and outdoor environments, loud noise, and locations accessible only via vertical ladders or over uneven spaces, cat walks, high elevations up to 100 feet, or working on grated surfaces/platforms.

This position is covered under a collective bargaining unit and has a starting wage of $51.92/hr.
