The graphic designer plays a vital role within CC&M, supporting campaigns and creative service for the City of Charlotte.
This role is responsible for developing thoughtful, creative and smart designs to highlight city programs and initiatives. The role includes the development of graphics and visual elements for both digital and physical campaigns.

This position calls for a professional who can create highly-creative, collaborative designs to grab attention and clarify information.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
Creative Asset Development
Generate creative assets from conception to completion.
Ensure creative assets are consistent in design principles and brand guidelines.
Implement creative design principles to produce collateral materials, graphics, signage or other design-focused products.
Assist in the planning and execution of high-level campaigns and projects.
Support the creative direction of the organization.
Develop visual concepts and creative solutions.
Ensure graphics and visual projects are ADA compliant and adhere to brand standards.
Support other departments, contractors in the development and screening of materials for ADA compliance.
Translate complex information into clear visual communications.
Create designs for various materials for print and digital collateral using illustration, photo editing, and layout software.
Juggle multiple projects at once while balancing long-term delivery and short deadlines.
Collaboration and Creative Support
Work with the creative services team to deliver effective designs for campaigns, initiatives.
Partner with clients to optimize creative campaigns.
Ensure projects are delivered on time with accuracy.
Collaborate with the creative services team to measure effectiveness of production.
Support city campaigns and initiatives through collaboration and idea sharing.
Support development of templates and design resources.
Maintain technical knowledge and industry standards by collaborating with other designers and attending workshops, reviewing outside professional work or participating in training.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communication, graphic art, fine art, communication or related field AND two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in public relations, media relations or communications experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with strong command of design software including the Adobe Creative Suite.
Demonstrated success in executing multi-platform communication strategies and campaigns.
Strong problem-solving abilities.
Knowledge and experience of designing with the Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to ensure consistency and quality in all communications.
Proven ability to collaborate across teams, manage complex projects and respond effectively to shifting priorities.
Skilled in communication and project management platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Monday.com, or Basecamp.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Mobility to work in an office setting, use standard office equipment and stamina to sit for extended periods of time; strength to lift and carry up to 20 pounds; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.

Work is performed in an office setting.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
