This advertisement is for an Information Technology Specialist II position Located at Birkmont Drive, Rancho Cordova.

Per the Governor's Executive Order N-22-25, effective July 1, 2026, all agencies and departments under the Governor's authority shall implement a hybrid telework policy with a default minimum of four in-person days per work week. Additional consideration for telework beyond that will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

The California Department of Corrections Rehabilitation (CDCR) Headquarters has implemented a new automated system to streamline the hiring process. The Human Resources Technology System (HRTS) is an intuitive, user-friendly system that provides the applicant access to real-time updates throughout the hiring process.

HRTS will require new candidates to set up an account, which allows them to track their application’s progress. Through their account portal, candidates will also be able to provide any additional information needed in the hiring process, including setting up interviews as needed. After the final filing date, applicants will receive an email from [email protected] or DoNotReply@CDCR (depending on the email provider), with direction on creating and/or accessing their account.

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework scheduled for employee who can satisfactorily perform their essential work functions independently and remotely. Specific telework schedules may be discussed further during the interview process. Telework is only available to residents of California.

Under general direction of the Information Technology Manager I (ITM I). The Information Technology Specialist II (ITS II) works as a technical senior security specialist to enhance and drive the Department’s security program. The CDCR Office of the Information Security Officer (OISO) must ensure compliance with federal and state security regulations such as NIST requirements, HIPPA Security Rule, and SAM Information Security Sections. The ITS II sets and implements best practices of information security for one of the largest correctional and public safety organizations in the nation. The incumbent will coordinate with Department, private, State and Federal entities to secure and protect confidential and sensitive information. This position will counteract information security threats, perform ongoing red-team engagements, proactive threat hunting, incident response, cyber threat intelligence collection and analysis, and defense countermeasure implementation. The ITS II works in the OISO which is comprised of security analysts, engineers, and technologists performing a wide array of complex security related tasks. The ITS II will be concerned with department security at the endpoint level, working with the CDCR Endpoint Management and Monitoring (EMM) team. Additionally, as one of the OISO’s security architects, the ITS II position will work closely with the Enterprise Architects to provide advanced technical leadership to the EIS, while empowering peers to perform the most complex technical security functions for the protection of technical and operational areas in a law enforcement environment.

Working Conditions

The main EIS location is in a park-like campus setting across from the Folsom Lake auto dealerships in Rancho Cordova, close to US Highway 50 and the Hazel light rail station. We are minutes from historic Sutter Street, the Folsom Premium Outlets, and many dining establishments.
