We're looking for good people who'd rather be outside than anywhere else. Maedgen's Lawn Care has been keeping lawns lush and landscapes beautiful in the Rolla area since 1992, and we're adding team members to our crew for the 2026 mowing season.
No experience? No problem. We've turned plenty of rookies into lawn care pros through our structured 90-day certification program. If you've got experience, even better... it'll show up in your starting pay. Either way, if you show up with a good attitude and treat your crew right, we want to talk to you.
What Your Day Actually Looks Like:
- Mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing residential and commercial properties
- Working alongside a crew that actually likes each other (most days)
- Learning how to make a lawn look so good the neighbors get jealous
- Keeping equipment clean and running... treat it like it's yours and it'll treat you right
- Clocking in at the shop by 8:00 AM, wrapping up by 4:30 PM, and getting paid every Friday like clockwork
What to Expect in Your First 90 Days:
Most companies hand you a mower and say "figure it out." We don't do that. We have a real training program because we'd rather teach you the right way once than fix the wrong way forever. During your first 90 days as a Team Member in Training, you'll:
- Complete our Safety Certification, because going home with all your fingers and toes is kind of important
- Get hands-on certified on professional equipment including push mowers, string trimmers, backpack blowers, and stick edgers (yes, there's a right way to use a weed-eater... we'll show you)
- Learn real gardening skills like proper pruning, raking, weeding, and debris removal
- Master our pathing and efficiency system, which is a fancy way of saying "stop walking back and forth so much"
- Learn our hand signal system so your crew can communicate over the sound of 47 mowers running at once
Complete your certifications and you'll be reviewed for advancement to our Team Member Specialist program, with a pay raise to match. Every crew leader on our team started exactly where you'd be starting.
What We Offer (a.k.a. Why Your Friends Will Be Jealous):
- $17 to $20 /hr starting based on experience with regular scheduled pay increases. Where you go from there is up to you
- Year-round work available... our crew transitions into snow removal when the mowers go to sleep for the winter (winter hours and pay may vary)
- 401(k) with company matching, because Future You deserves nice things too
- Paid time off... yes, we actually want you to take a vacation
- Structured 90-day training and certification program (not a YouTube tutorial)
- Paid every Friday after your first waiting week
- We promote solely from within. No outsiders stealing your promotion.
- $500 Employee Referral Bounty: bring a friend, and if they make it through 90 days, that's $500 in your pocket
- $50 commission for every new maintenance client you help bring in (no cap on that, by the way)
- Professional development assistance
- Company t-shirts, sweatshirts, and safety gear provided. You won't have to ruin your own wardrobe.
What We're Looking For:
- Valid driver's license, required to advance but not a deal breaker
- Reliable transportation to and from our shop each day (required... we can't exactly Uber to the job sites)
- Someone who genuinely enjoys being outdoors. If sunshine puts you in a good mood, you're in the right place.
- Dependable and punctual. When you're not there, your crew notices (and they will give you a hard time about it)
- Physically able to work on your feet all day in Missouri summers. We're talking the real kind of summer, not "oh it's kinda warm out" summer.
- Positive attitude and a team-first mindset
- Must wear work boots (6" or higher). Your ankles will thank you.
- Must be able to pass a drug screening
- Landscape maintenance experience is a plus, but a great attitude beats a great resume every time
This Job Probably Isn't For You If...
- You melt in the rain or wilt in the heat. This is Missouri, and Mother Nature doesn't check the forecast before showing up.
- You're looking for something temporary to hold you over for a couple weeks. We invest real time and money training our people, so we're looking for folks who want to stick around.
- Your alarm clock is more of a suggestion than a rule. Your crew is counting on you, and the grass isn't going to cut itself.
- You think you already know everything. We take pride in doing things the right way, and that means being open to learning from the people around you.
- You need March through June off. That's our Super Bowl, and everybody plays.

Why Maedgen's?
Maedgen’s Lawn Care is family-owned, hands-on, and still small enough to know our people. Eric is involved in the field. Ellie works closely with the crews. Good work gets noticed. Problems get handled together. We expect a lot, but we also care about the people carrying our name.
We’ve been part of the Rolla community for over 30 years, and our crews are a big reason why that name still means something.
This isn’t just a summer job. We offer year-round work, a real path to move up, and a team that has each other’s backs. Some of our guys have been here for decades. That doesn’t happen by accident.
If you want a job where you're outside, the crew is solid, and you actually look forward to going to work... okay, maybe not every Monday, but at least Tuesday... we'd love to hear from you.
"Our people are our biggest asset. Without them, we would be just another landscape company. So, we take the job of identifying, training, and recognizing our people very seriously. And we believe our people represent the best and brightest of our industry." - Eric Maedgen, Owner
