The Safety Director is a senior-level leadership role responsible for the strategic design, implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of enterprise-wide safety and health programs. The role ensures organizational compliance with applicable federal, state, and local occupational safety regulations while actively shaping a proactive, accountable safety culture across field, operational, and leadership levels. The Safety Director partners with executive leadership, operations, project management, and external stakeholders to mitigate risk, prevent injuries and incidents, and support safe and efficient execution of organizational work.

Primary Responsibilities
1. Safety Strategy & Program Leadership
Develop, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive safety and health programs aligned with organizational objectives and regulatory
Establish and communicate a clear safety vision that integrates safety performance with operational excellence and business outcomes.
Monitor emerging regulatory changes and industry best practices and translate them into actionable organizational policies and procedures.
2. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with applicable occupational safety and health regulations (e.g., OSHA and equivalent state or federal standards), including required documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping.
Serve as the primary organizational liaison during regulatory inspections, audits, inquiries, and enforcement actions.
Lead responses to citations, corrective action plans, abatement strategies, and verification
3. Incident Management & Continuous Improvement.
Oversee enterprise-wide incident reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis processes for injuries, illnesses, near-misses, property damage, and vehicle-related events.
Ensure timely implementation and verification of corrective and preventive
Analyze safety data and trends to identify systemic risks and opportunities for continuous
4. Safety Metrics, Analytics & Reporting
Define, track, and report key safety performance indicators (e.g., injury rates, severity measures, near-miss data, audit findings).
Prepare regular safety performance reports for executive and operational
Use data-driven insights to guide strategic decisions, prioritize interventions, and evaluate program effectiveness.
5. Training, Education & Safety Culture
Design and oversee safety training programs, including onboarding, refresher training, task-specific instruction, and leadership-focused safety education.
Promote a culture of shared responsibility, accountability, and employee engagement in safety practices.
Act as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to leaders and employees at all organizational levels.
6. Field, Project & Operational Integration
Partner with operations and project leadership to embed safety requirements into daily work activities and project execution.
Oversee or support jobsite inspections, audits, job hazard analyses, and risk
Ensure consistent application of safety standards across multiple sites, regions, or business units.
7. Leadership, Talent & Stakeholder Management
Lead, mentor, and develop safety professionals and field safety staff as
Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, HR, fleet, insurance, and external partners (e.g., insurers, brokers, third-party administrators).
Support claims management processes and participate in insurance and risk review
Education, Experience, and Skills Required
Required
7+ of progressive experience in safety management or occupational safety roles
3-5 years of trade-related experience
Progressive leadership experience in safety management
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, including General Industry (1910) and Construction (1926)
Experience managing OSHA inspections, recordkeeping, and reporting (e.g., OSHA 300/300A/301)
Professional safety certifications (e.g., CSP, ASP, CHST, or equivalent)
Preferred
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Safety Management, Engineering, Industrial Safety, or a closely related field
Experience with safety management software, dashboards, or KPI systems
Familiar with NEC code
