Full Job Description

Position Summary

Schmidt Manufacturing, Inc. is seeking an experienced, hands-on Corporate Controller to lead the Company's accounting operations and financial reporting functions across domestic and international entities.

The Corporate Controller will be responsible for managing accounting operations, financial reporting, manufacturing accounting, inventory accounting, cost accounting, consolidations, audit management, internal controls, and budget administration. The Controller will lead a team of accounting professionals and work closely with Operations, Sales, Supply Chain, and executive leadership to ensure timely and accurate financial information is available to support business decisions.

This position is a key leadership role and will be responsible for managing the Company's annual budgeting process across departments and legal entities, preparing executive and Board-level financial reporting packages, analyzing operating results, and presenting financial statement and budget variances during Board meetings and executive reviews.

The ideal candidate will possess strong manufacturing accounting experience, including inventory valuation, standard costing, cost accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit management. Experience supporting ERP implementations, system upgrades, and process automation initiatives is highly desired as the Company continues to evaluate future technology enhancements.

This position operates in a fast-paced, deadline-driven manufacturing environment where adaptability, continuous improvement, accountability, and attention to detail are critical for success.

Duties

Accounting & Financial Reporting

Lead day-to-day accounting operations including General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Inventory Accounting, Revenue Recognition, and Payroll Accounting.
Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
Prepare monthly financial statements and management reporting packages.
Review balance sheet reconciliations and account analyses.
Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and Company accounting policies.
Maintain accounting records and financial reporting processes that support growth and scalability.

Manufacturing & Cost Accounting

Lead manufacturing accounting activities including standard costing, cost roll maintenance, inventory valuation, inventory reserves, manufacturing variance analysis, overhead absorption analysis, gross margin reporting, and inventory reconciliation processes.
Support and oversee cycle count programs and annual physical inventories.
Partner with operations leadership to improve inventory accuracy and manufacturing reporting.
Analyze material, labor, and overhead variances and communicate results to management.
Recruiting Submission Version

Budget Process Ownership

Lead the annual budgeting process across all departments and legal entities.
Coordinate budget submissions from department leaders and review budget assumptions for completeness and reasonableness.
Consolidate departmental budgets into a company-wide operating budget and prepare supporting schedules for executive review.
Monitor budget-to-actual performance throughout the year.
Work with department managers to identify, explain, and resolve significant budget variances.
Provide accurate financial information and supporting schedules to the CFO for forecasting, financial modeling, and strategic planning activities.

Executive & Board Reporting

Prepare monthly executive financial reporting packages.
Prepare and maintain Board reporting schedules and supporting analyses.
Develop KPI reports, trend analyses, and budget-to-actual reporting.
Present financial statement variances, operating performance results, and budget variances during executive and Board meetings.
Assist executive leadership in understanding financial performance and business trends.

Audit & Internal Controls

Serve as the primary accounting liaison with external auditors.
Coordinate annual financial statement audits and other audit-related activities.
Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
Maintain a strong system of internal controls across the organization.
Ensure compliance with Company accounting policies and financial governance requirements.
Continuously evaluate and improve accounting processes and controls.

International Accounting & Consolidations

Coordinate accounting and reporting activities for domestic and international operations.
Support entities located in the United States, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Manage intercompany accounting and reconciliation processes.
Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements.
Ensure consistent application of accounting policies across all entities.

ERP & Process Improvement

Continue to develop and optimize Epicor ERP financial processes.
Support future ERP upgrades, system implementations, software enhancements, and automation initiatives.
Serve as the accounting lead for future implementation projects, including process design, user acceptance testing, data validation, training, and go-live support.
Partner with internal stakeholders and third-party consultants to improve reporting and operational efficiency.

Leadership Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members.
Establish accountability and performance expectations.
Foster a collaborative and continuous improvement culture.
Lead weekly staff meetings and departmental planning sessions.
Assist in recruiting, hiring, and developing future accounting talent.
Promote cross-functional teamwork throughout the organization.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.

10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
5+ years of management experience leading accounting teams.
Strong manufacturing accounting and cost accounting experience.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
Experience managing month-end and year-end close processes.
Experience preparing consolidated financial statements.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Pay: $125,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
