The Outpatient Pharmacy Technician supports the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care across UC Davis Health’s ambulatory settings. Under the supervision of an Ambulatory Care Pharmacist, the technician provides technical support for outpatient pharmacy operations, including medication preparation and distribution, inventory management, and monthly area inspections. A key part of this role involves direct interaction with patients, ensuring excellent customer service, timely medication access, and clear communication. The technician helps maintain a positive patient experience by addressing inquiries, assisting with prescription processing, and supporting clinical pharmacists in delivering safe and effective care. Working within one of five outpatient pharmacies, the technician plays a critical role in supporting the department’s mission to optimize medication outcomes through service, education, and innovation.

- California Licensed Pharmacy Technician
- Minimum 1-year outpatient pharmacy experience, working as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Recent experience working in an Outpatient Pharmacy setting (within last 2 years).
- Knowledge of third- party insurances, Medicare Plan-B, and/or manual claims.
- Knowledge of current Medi-Cal Formulary and other third- party billing systems.
- Knowledge of current California Pharmacy Law.
- Working knowledge of pharmacy terminology, generic/brand name drugs and abbreviations.
- Ability to accurately perform pharmacy calculations
- Working knowledge of billing and submitting authorization requests for State funded insurance programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience and working knowledge within a UC Health Outpatient Pharmacy.
- Experience with Pharmacy EPIC dispensing systems or EPIC EMR.
- Knowledge and ability in Sterile and Non-Sterile Compounding.
- Ability to operate Pharmacy Information System and other computer programs.

Department Specific Job Scope
The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.
