Part-Time CPA / Accounting Manager
Location: Ponte Vedra, FL | Hybrid (Remote/In Office)
Schedule: ~20 hours/week (high potential for full-time in the future)
Industry: Federal Construction & Infrastructure

About the Role

Reliance Construction is seeking an experienced Part-Time CPA / Accounting Manager to oversee the financial operations of our growing federal construction and infrastructure company. This is a hands-on leadership role for a seasoned accounting professional with expertise in construction accounting, financial reporting, job costing, and operational finance. Experience supporting federal government contracts is strongly preferred.

You'll oversee and coordinate the company's accounting operations — primarily handled through an outsourced accounting firm and external CPA support staff — while providing direction to that team and supporting leadership with financial reporting, compliance, forecasting, and cash flow management. We're looking for someone proactive and detail-oriented who can operate independently while strengthening our financial systems and reporting processes.

Responsibilities

Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements — income statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports, and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger activity, accounts payable/receivable, payroll coordination, and reconciliations
Manage and coordinate external CPA/accounting contractors to ensure accuracy and timely deliverables
Support leadership with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis
Monitor project financial performance, cost tracking, billing, and revenue recognition
Assist with audit preparation, tax coordination, and financial compliance
Evaluate and improve accounting procedures to increase operational efficiency and financial visibility
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal financial controls
Maintain accurate financial documentation and reporting systems
Support internal reporting and operational decision-making for leadership
Handle construction-specific accounting functions, including subcontractor tracking and job costing
Coordinate with project management and operations teams on project financial status and reporting needs

Qualifications

Active CPA license required
Minimum 5 years of accounting or financial management experience, preferably in construction, government contracting, or project-based industries
Experience managing or coordinating accounting teams or outsourced financial support preferred
Strong understanding of construction accounting principles (job costing, WIP reporting, project forecasting, subcontractor management) preferred
Experience with federal contractors or government contracting environments strongly preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and accounting software platforms
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and leadership abilities
Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with accuracy
Comfortable operating independently while collaborating with leadership and operations
High level of discretion in handling confidential financial information
Experience with QuickBooks, Sage, Deltek, Procore, or similar platforms is a plus
