Join the Transit Team as a Transit Bus Operator and transport individuals who rely on our service to doctors’ appointments, work, grocery stores, and much, much more! As a Transit Bus Operator, you will provide our clients with the freedom and independence of reliable, safe transportation.
St Johns County Council on Aging (SJCCOA), a private not-for-profit agency, has been providing transportation services to area residence St Johns County, Florida, for over 20 years. Since 2000 our Sunshine Bus has provided a fixed route transit system to the greater Saint Augustine area, now operating nine routes. Our Paratransit drivers assist transportation disadvantaged clients from their door to their destination's door.
Minimum Pre-Employment Qualifications:
- 21+ years of age
- Possess a valid STATE OF FLORIDA driver’s license - Class E
- Clean Driving Record
- Pass a driving test
- Pass FLORIDA Department of Transportation Transit Driver Medical Examination
- Pass FEDERAL TRANSIT ADMINISTRATION (FTA) Drug and Alcohol test
- Pass background/fingerprint check (This site is posted under the directive of House Bill 531 (2025): https://info.flclearinghouse.com)
- Have previous transit of driving experience a plus
- Have excellent verbal communication skills
- Are able to work shift hours and days assigned.
- A High School Diploma or its equivalent.
Job Duties:
- Safely transporting passengers in a safe, courteous, and reliable manner throughout our beautiful St Johns County service area complying with local traffic regulations.
- Be "in the know" about SJCCOA’s routes and schedules, providing customers with route information; collect fare; regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
- Loads, secures, and unloads passengers at stops; meets and greets passengers in a courteous manner and assists passengers with packages as needed.
- Enjoy being "outside" with the comfort of air-conditioning and heat on all buses.
- Maintains records
- Ensures assigned vehicles are cleaned (interior and exterior).
- Maintains familiarity and compliance with ADA requirements
- Performs vehicle and equipment inspection
- Ability to utilize onboard technology, including mobile data tablets and GPS.
- Familiarity with Saint Augustine / St Johns County road systems, and knowledge of residential developments and medical office locations is helpful.
- Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A, B or C with Passenger Endorsement preferred but not required.
