Position Summary
As a Retail Operations Assistant Manager, you will be responsible for helping lead and manage the day-to-day operations of our retail location while creating a fun, welcoming, and magical guest experience.
We are looking for an experienced retail leader who can take ownership of daily operations, lead and develop a team, manage staffing and scheduling, oversee inventory and merchandise standards, monitor sales performance, resolve guest concerns, and ensure company and Disney standards are consistently maintained.
The Assistant Manager serves as a member of the location's management team and is expected to exercise independent judgment in managing employees, prioritizing operational needs, solving problems, and maintaining a high standard of guest service.
This is a salaried exempt management position. The primary responsibility of this role is the management and supervision of the retail operation and its team. The Assistant Manager will lead by example and may perform hands-on retail duties when operationally necessary, but management and leadership responsibilities will remain the primary focus of the position.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management
- Direct and supervise the daily work of all retail team members.
- Assign daily responsibilities and delegate tasks based on business needs, staffing levels, employee strengths, and operational priorities.
- Set expectations for employee performance, guest service, attendance, professionalism, and productivity.
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance guidance to team members.
- Participate in employee performance evaluations and provide management with recommendations regarding employee performance and development.
- Address employee performance, attendance, conduct, and policy concerns in accordance with company procedures.
- Make recommendations regarding hiring, termination, promotion, advancement, discipline, and other changes in employee status.
- Assist with interviewing and selecting new team members.
- Train and develop employees to meet company, retail, and service standards.
- Foster a positive, accountable, collaborative, and inclusive work environment.
- Serve as a management resource for employees and assist with resolving workplace concerns.
- Lead by example in professionalism, guest service, teamwork, and company culture.
Scheduling & Workforce Management
- Take an active management role in creating and maintaining employee schedules.
- Determine appropriate staffing coverage based on anticipated business levels, employee availability, sales activity, and operational needs.
- Review staffing needs and make adjustments when business conditions change.
- Approve or recommend shift changes, coverage adjustments, and scheduling solutions.
- Coordinate time-off requests and shift coverage while maintaining appropriate staffing levels.
- Monitor attendance and identify recurring attendance or staffing concerns.
- Ensure the location is appropriately staffed during peak business periods, weekends, holidays, and other high-volume periods.
Retail Operations Management
- Oversee the daily operation of the retail location and ensure it is properly staffed, organized, stocked, and guest-ready.
- Establish daily operational priorities and delegate responsibilities to team members.
- Monitor compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable Disney standards.
- Ensure opening, closing, merchandising, cleaning, and operational procedures are completed appropriately.
- Identify operational problems and independently determine appropriate solutions within established company guidelines.
- Communicate significant operational issues, trends, and recommendations to senior management.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and visually appealing retail environment.
- Ensure the location consistently reflects the Kawaii Slime Company brand and guest experience standards.
Inventory & Merchandise Management
- Oversee inventory levels and ensure merchandise is available to meet guest demand.
- Direct employees in stocking, replenishment, organization, and merchandise presentation.
- Monitor inventory trends and identify potential shortages or overstock concerns.
- Oversee regular inventory counts and assist with investigating discrepancies.
- Determine appropriate replenishment priorities based on sales activity and inventory levels.
- Ensure products are properly displayed, organized, and presented to guests.
- Communicate inventory needs and recommendations to management.
Sales & Business Performance
- Monitor daily sales performance and identify opportunities to improve revenue.
- Lead the team in achieving sales and guest-service goals.
- Review sales trends and use business information to make operational decisions.
- Coach employees on product knowledge, guest engagement, and sales techniques.
- Assist management in implementing strategies designed to increase sales and improve the overall guest experience.
- Monitor cash-handling procedures and ensure employees follow established company policies.
- Review operational and sales information and communicate meaningful trends and recommendations to management.
Guest Experience & Service Leadership
- Lead the team in providing exceptional service to guests and families.
- Establish expectations for friendly, engaging, knowledgeable, and professional guest interactions.
- Handle escalated guest concerns, complaints, and service issues.
- Exercise independent judgment when resolving guest concerns while remaining within company and Disney guidelines.
- Coach employees on appropriate guest-service techniques.
- Help create a fun, welcoming, and memorable experience for children and families.
- Ensure the team consistently represents the Kawaii Slime Company brand appropriately.
Training & Development
- Assist with interviewing and selecting retail team members.
- Develop and implement effective onboarding and training practices.
- Train employees on company policies, retail procedures, product knowledge, guest service, and Disney standards.
- Evaluate employee performance and provide ongoing coaching.
- Identify employee strengths and development opportunities.
- Recommend additional training, coaching, advancement, or corrective action when appropriate.
- Support the development of employees for increased responsibility and leadership opportunities.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure employees follow company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Monitor compliance with cash-handling, inventory, safety, attendance, and operational procedures.
- Address policy violations and employee concerns appropriately.
- Escalate significant compliance, safety, security, or employee-relations concerns to management or HR.
- Help maintain a safe environment for employees and guests.
- Protect company property, merchandise, equipment, and confidential information.
Management Expectations

While the Assistant Manager reports to senior management and operates within company policies and established guidelines, this position is expected to independently manage the location's day-to-day operations and make appropriate decisions without requiring constant direction.

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or higher is a plus.
- Minimum 2 years of retail management or supervisory experience required.
- Experience working with children and families preferred.
- Experience in a high-volume, entertainment, tourism, theme-park, or destination retail environment is a plus.
- Experience working in a fast paced retail environment is a plus.
- Knowledge of sensory toys and slime products is a plus.
- Must be available to work mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and other business-critical periods as needed.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks associated with the role.
- Must be comfortable working directly with guests and employees in a busy retail environment.
Compensation & Classification
Salary: $52,000 - $58,000 annually, based on experience.
Classification: Full-time, salaried exempt management position.
This position is responsible for managing the retail operation and regularly directing the work of the location's retail team. The Assistant Manager is expected to exercise independent judgment, oversee day-to-day operations, and make recommendations regarding employee hiring, development, performance, advancement, discipline, and other employment decisions.
