Full Job Description

EHS Safety Coordinator

Location: Independence, OR
Shift: 1st Shift (6:00 AM – 2:30 PM)
Pay Rate: $23.00 per hour

Job Summary

The EHS Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing environmental, health, and safety compliance at a growing media facility specializing in mulch and soil products. Under general supervision, the EHS Safety Coordinator ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations, as well as corporate EH&S policies and procedures. The EHS Safety Coordinator works closely with employees, supervisors, and management to foster a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement throughout the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure EPA and OSHA documentation is maintained and compliant with regulatory requirements and corporate EH&S guidance.
Collaborate with employees and managers to identify, evaluate, and mitigate environmental, health, and safety concerns.
Maintain and update the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) database and verify that required personal protective equipment (PPE) is available and utilized appropriately.
Track and manage incident, injury, near-miss, and safe behavior reporting while following up on corrective actions.
Coordinate Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) compliance activities and related employee training.
Provide guidance and direction for emergency response planning and activities at the facility.
Organize and facilitate EH&S training sessions and maintain training records in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
Record environmental monitoring, sampling, and disposal data within recordkeeping systems as required by regulations.
Coordinate vendor inspections and service activities, including fire protection, sprinkler systems, wastewater systems, and other compliance-related services.
Serve as team lead for the facility Safety Committee and promote continuous safety improvement initiatives.
Support safety audits, inspections, risk assessments, and corrective action programs.
Periodically work flexible hours, including second or third shifts, as needed to support facility operations and training requirements.

Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma or GED required.
OSHA Certification preferred.

Experience

1–2 years of experience in an Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) role, preferably within manufacturing, agriculture, industrial processing, or a related environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of EPA, OSHA, State Workers’ Compensation laws, and wastewater compliance requirements.
Working knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
Understanding of both leading and lagging safety performance metrics.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Strong computer and internet skills.
Knowledge of facility operations, production processes, and safety procedures.
Ability to effectively lead meetings, conduct training sessions, and present information to employees at all levels.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to gain cross-functional support and alignment.
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.

Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
