This position is working from one of our School Based Health Centers in Princess Anne and Pocomoke. When schools are closed you will work from either our Pocomoke or Princess Anne office. It is full-time working 40 hours per week year round.
The Front Office Medical Assistant provides administrative support. Secretarial tasks, and medical assistant duties. In this position, you will be responsible for secretarial and medical assistant duties. Schedule appointments, collect insurance and health information, and input all relevant data into our electronic health records. You will also answer phones and perform other receptionist duties. Familiarity with medical terminology, billing, and coding. Within the scope of Maryland Nurse Practice Act, the CNA/GNA may be assigned specific responsibility for certain direct patient services. This position reports to the Clinical Manager of the site with oversight by the Chief Nursing Officer.

- Develop favorable relationships with all student/patients. Instruct patients and their family members training and /or information related to in-home care as appropriate.
- Establish favorable working relationships with all staff members associated with center operations, including medical receptionists, nurses, physicians, faculty, and related staff.

PRIMARY TASKS AND DUTIES
- Prepares patient’s chart prior to clinical exam.
- Prepares patient for clinical exam/visit, including collecting typical patient vital metrics (blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, etc.).
- Assists provider with clinical visits.
- Follows through with post-visit duties.
- Perform medical receptionist duties: answer phone, schedule appointments, collect insurance information, enter all student/patient demographic, and medical information in EHR.
- Complete office duties as assigned.
- Perform POC testing, and processing of specimens.
- Provides service in a manner that is appropriate for the patient’s age; demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to meet the patient’s physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
- Oversee SBHC boxes to ensure timely follow-up of patient cases, lab results etc.
- Provide translation services.
- All other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Read, write, and maintain patient records and related administrative documentation.
· Knowledge and ability to use requisite tools, systems, technology and equipment in the collection of patient data.
· Utilize computers in the collection, management, and reporting of patient records.
· Ability to work with a diverse, patient population, assisting with positive health outcomes for the individual, family, and community.

This position requires compliance with Chesapeake Health Care Requirements of Conduct/Work Rules, Compliance Program, and policies and procedures. Failure to comply, which may include the failure to report any conduct or event that potentially violates legal or compliance requirements of our written standards, will be met by the enforcement of disciplinary action, up to and including possible termination, in accordance with our compliance program policy and procedures.
POSITION REQUIRMENTS
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a medical terminology course preferred.
- Certification in office practice or enrollment in such a program is desired.
Experience
- Demonstrated success with clear thinking and ability to reorganize as needed.
- Demonstrated success in working independently, prioritizing and problem solving.
- Demonstrated success in organization abilities.
- Demonstrated success in computer skills including ability to use computer for scheduling, word documents and reasonable keyboard skills.
- Demonstrated success in customer service/patient services or working with the general public, preferably in a medical care facility.
- Significant knowledge of medical practices and procedures in a primary care environment.
- Demonstrated success and experience with direct patient services (e.g. POC testing) and the proper knowledge and use of medical devices and equipment.
- Familiarity with the Patient Centered Medical Home model and the implementation of PCMH in ambulatory care.
