Pay Grade: E21 Minimum Salary: * $92,264 Mid-Point Salary: $114,813

Salary is determined on directly related experience supported by a service record or experience affidavit. For

more information on our pay policy, please refer to the Compensation Resource Manual. Annualized pay may
be pro-rated based on actual start date.

Job Scope

Oversees daily operation of a singular department or campus. Directs staff, which should include people managers, in the
development and implementation of departmental or campus policies, procedures, and programs. Adheres to both district
policy and governmental regulations concerning department or campus operations. Manages departmental or campus
structure, development, training, and planning.

Position Summary

Plans, directs, and conducts internal audits, reviews, and investigations in accordance with the annual internal
audit plan. Promotes integrity, effectiveness, and efficiency of operations to improve the district’s risk
management, internal control, and governance processes. Provides guidance and recommendations to
management and ensures compliance with accountability standards, laws, regulations, and policies.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities

1. In collaboration with the Chief of Audit and Performance, Responsible for developing and implementing a
risk-based audit plan, monitoring, and reporting the progress of the plan to the Chief and to the Audit
Committee.

2. Manage the internal audit activity and ensure that it is in compliance with the Internal Audit Charter and
professional standards promulgated by the Institute of Internal Auditors.

3. Coordinate audit work for staff and approves audit programs, reviews audit reports prior to formal
release and review work papers to ensure reports are properly supported.

4. Responsible for timely follow-up and reporting of open audit issues.
5. Provide managerial oversight and evaluation for the Internal Audit Department.
6. Verify the existence and means for safeguarding district assets.
7. Compile and maintain records, reports, fraud and abuse hotline information, and other documents as

required. Assist in investigating suspected fraudulent activities reported as needed.
8. Analyze and interpret managerial/financial information.
9. Review financial operations and programs in assigned areas to determine whether results are consistent

with established objectives and goals and whether the operations and programs are being implemented
as planned.

10. Provide District’s external auditors’ information request to allow them to complete the annual financial
audit.

11. Assist in keeping the Board of Trustees informed on department programs and activities.
12. Supervise and assist in evaluating professional and paraprofessional personnel in assigned department.
13. Ensure compliance with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule and

local board policy in internal auditing.
14. Prepare or assist with the drafting of formal audit reports, present the results of work performed to

appropriate staff and solicit corrective action plans.
15. Maintain confidentiality of work and results performed.
16. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities

expected for this position.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or 4-year equivalent experience.
3+ years professional experience in auditing, and
Progressive leadership experience to include:

o Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, and Managing employees or teams.
o Coaching, Mentoring, Developing, and Performance Managing employees or teams.

Valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record. Must meet and maintain liability coverage

eligibility.

Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee

(approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Preferred Requirements

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
10+ years of professional experience in auditing, and
4 + progressive leadership experience to include:

o Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, and Managing employees or teams.
o Coaching, Mentoring, Developing, and Performance Managing employees or teams.

Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform related mathematical calculations.
Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to plan and conduct financial and management audits.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
Ability to implement policies and procedures.
Ability to interpret data.
Ability to operate personal computers and utilize applicable software packages.

Physical Demands/Requirements:

Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines; frequent sitting,

standing, walking, climbing, balancing, pulling and pushing; reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing,
speaking clearly, visual acuity and prolonged data input; occasional lift/carry light, moderate 15-44 pounds.

Supervise and evaluate professional and paraprofessional employees in Internal Auditing department.
