Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist (Haas) to set up and operate CNC lathes to produce precision parts from steel and aluminum. This role is primarily focused on turning operations, including setup, operation, and optimization of Haas lathe machines. The ideal candidate will be skilled in interpreting engineering drawings, selecting machining methods, and ensuring all parts meet quality and safety standards in a heavy manufacturing environment.

Compensation & Schedule

Pay Rate: $27.00–$30.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Shift: 2nd Shift, Monday–Friday, 1:30 PM–10:00 PM. Overtime and occasional Saturdays may be required based on production needs.

Key Responsibilities

Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
Plan and execute machining operations with a focus on lathe/turning processes.
Set up, operate, and troubleshoot Haas CNC lathes (including live tooling, if applicable).
Perform precision turning operations such as facing, threading, boring, grooving, and drilling.
Adjust offsets, tooling, feeds, and speeds to optimize performance and maintain tolerances.
Read and interpret CNC programs; make edits at the machine as needed.
Verify part dimensions using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
Perform in-process inspections to ensure parts meet specifications and quality standards.
Assist with minor setups on mills if needed, but primary focus remains on lathe operations.
Complete production and quality documentation accurately and timely.
Perform basic preventive maintenance on machines and tooling.
Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 5 years of CNC lathe experience (Haas preferred).
Strong experience with lathe setup and operation (not just operator-level).
Familiarity with Haas CNC controls required.
Experience machining steel and aluminum in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to read blueprints and hold tight tolerances.
Experience with live tooling and multi-axis lathes is a plus.
Manual machining experience is a plus.
Strong attention to detail and quality.
Self-motivated team player with good communication skills.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on concrete floors.
Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and stoop throughout the shift.
Good vision, including close vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
