Job Description:
The Mechanical Engineer II will support the design and delivery of mechanical/plumbing drawings and specifications across any of the key BSE market sectors. This role is ideal for an engineer who can begin to independently execute design tasks, coordinate with project teams, and develop construction-ready documents under the guidance of Senior Staff. Responsible for the calculation, design, and preparation of construction drawings for renovation and new construction of buildings and facilities. Independently performs work, applies advanced concepts to solve difficult problems and/or develop new solutions to unusual problems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are representative of the position's primary responsibilities; additional duties may be assigned as required to address specific project needs:
Mechanical
- Support multiple projects concurrently under the guidance of Engineers.
- Begin to independently execute mechanical/plumbing design tasks and develop construction-ready documents.
- Coordinate with internal MEP disciplines and project team members.
- Ensure code compliance with CMC/IMC, CPC/IPC, and local AHJ requirements.
- Produce accurate deliverables including design drawings, calculations, and reports.
- Participate in QA/QC reviews.
- Prepare mechanical/plumbing construction drawings using AutoCAD/Revit: Equipment Schedules and Mechanical/Plumbing Details, Riser Diagrams and Controls/Sequences of Operations, Ductwork and piping plans
- Perform standard engineering calculations:Heating and Cooling Load Calculations (Energy Pro, Trace 700), Title 24 energy compliance forms, Water Pressure and Fixture Unit Calculations
- Support HVAC and plumbing designs including equipment selection, ductwork, piping, and plumbing systems.
- Assist with construction administration: submittal reviews, RFI assistance, and site observations.
- Travel to job sites as needed for observation and data collection.
- Contribute to continuous learning and professional development.
BIM_CAD
- Support the design and delivery of moderately complex MEP drawing production and BIM model coordination with some supervision.
- Take ownership of drawing setup, management, and formatting for assigned projects.
- Prepare MEP drawings utilizing AutoCAD and Revit.
- Coordinate BIM-CAD deliverables with internal and external project design team members.
- Participate in QA/QC reviews to maintain accuracy, constructability, and consistency among MEP disciplines.
- Prepare and maintain detailed BIM models, CAD drawings, and construction documentation using AutoCAD and Revit in accordance with designer and/or engineer redlines and company standards.
- Work closely with designers, engineers, and project managers to ensure project coordination and design effort is maintained for the duration of the project.
- Read and thoroughly understand construction drawings including MEP symbols/systems.
- Facilitate the reproduction, packaging, and delivery of MEP drawings and specifications to clients.
- Participate in continuous learning and professional development.
- Help support the creation and maintenance of BIM-CAD standards for BSE.
- Provide general drawing standards guidance to junior BIM-CAD staff.

- Maintain layer discipline using consistent company standard layer naming conventions that adhere to national CAD standards
- Apply consistent use of line types, weights, and annotating styles across all sheets
- Understand and apply standard MEP symbols, device tagging, and drawing hierarchy on projects
- Address redlines provided by the designer and/or engineer to meet company project quality standards
- Scaling and dimensions
- View ranges, filters, phasing, and sheet-specific view settings
- Use annotative text and dimensions to ensure continuity throughout a drawing set
- Coordinate across other discipline views to minimize drawing and/or model clashes
- Create custom blocks or annotations as needed to improve project workflow and quality
- Manage blocks, annotations, and families so they are incorporated into the standard BIM-CAD library
- Troubleshoot project setups to help address project workflow and printing consistency
- Revision (cloud and delta) setup and management for drawing resubmittals
Software Skills:
- AutoCAD MEP: Design Master, Sheet Set Manager, XREF coordination of architectural, structural and civil CAD files/backgrounds, Creation and management of blocks and dynamic blocks for MEP components, Layer and filter management
- Revit MEP: MEP systems modeling and device connections, Smart schedule creation and management, Creation and management of families, BIM360 / AutoDesk Forma model management across project disciplines, Modeling of MEP system for LOD 300

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (required). Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (optional).

Required: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) / Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) Certification
Eligibility Requirements:
- 1–4 years of experience.
- Due to the nature of the work and applicable legal requirements, candidates must be U.S. citizens. The company does not sponsor employment visas.
- This is a full-time, in-office position with occasional out-of-town travel for fieldwork necessary to complete assignments.
- Work Schedule: M–Th 7:30 am – 5:30 pm, Fri 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.
- Personal transportation, proof of a valid driver’s license, and minimum insurance coverage as required under California law.
- Full-time, exempt position.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $118,000.00 per year
