Full Job Description

Infection Preventionist Nurse (Berkeley)

Compensation: Starting from $104K for year salary

Chaparral House is a Bay Area leader in providing person-centered care. We are the only independent, non-sectarian, community based, nonprofit, skilled nursing eldercare community in the Berkeley area. We provide care for 49 elders in a dynamic, life-affirming, homelike environment.

Our compensation is among the highest in the East Bay and we offer one of the best benefit packages in the entire Bay Area. The Infection Preventionist Nurse will start from 104K per year salary depending on education, experience, and prior completion of approved Infection Preventionist training.

We also provide full-time employees 100% employer-paid premiums for medical, dental, and life insurance, as well as 403(b). And generous paid time off starting at 2-weeks’ vacation per year (increasing one-week per year every five years up to 5 weeks per year), up to 12 sick days per year, and 10 holidays per year.

The Infection Preventionist is responsible for planning and implementing the facility’s infection prevention and response programs.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Gathering and analyzing infection data to make evidence-based decisions
Educating people as needed on infection prevention protocols to facilitate emergency preparedness
Coordinating infectious disease testing and vaccinations for anyone potentially impacted by an infectious agent in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations, Joint
Commission guidelines, and Company policy
Accounting for and reporting all testing and vaccinations as required
Coordinating the isolation and treatment of infected individuals to contain and minimize the spread of infectious diseases
Assisting with the development of action plans to minimize the potential impact in case of an infectious disease outbreak
Collaborating with government agencies such as the CDC, CDPH, and BPH as well as the Joint Commission to ensure that infection control practices are implemented and enforced
Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, coordinate, and direct our infection prevention and control program in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern such requirements in nursing care facilities.
Ensure that the facility is in compliance with current CDC, OSHA, and local regulations concerning infection prevention and control.
Develop, maintain, and periodically update infection prevention and control processes and techniques in accordance with current best practices.
Review, modify and interpret infection prevention and control policies and procedures as necessary.
Monitor infection prevention and control practices and procedures to ensure that all personnel are implementing our standard operating procedures for tasks involving exposure to blood/body fluids.
Make rounds to nursing units for the purpose of case findings, review of environmental sanitation procedures, and supervision of standard and transmission-based precautions/practices.
Visit residents as necessary to ensure that established standard and transmission-based precautions and aseptic technique are followed.
Review and analyze infectious disease laboratory reports and consult with the Director of Nursing Services in developing the care plan for assuring that aseptic techniques are implemented.
Assist in developing and implementing guidelines for the decontamination and sterilization activities performed in the facility.
Perform periodic testing of our prepared sterile packs, bundles, and supplies, including sterilization equipment.

Training – Working closely with the Director of Staff Development to coordinate and conduct an effective on-going infection prevention education and training program for all employees in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations, Joint Commission guidelines, and Company policy

Other Duties:

Assist the Administrator, Director of Nursing Services, and the Director of Staff Development in ensuring that all nursing procedures and policies are reinforced
Actively Participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement programs and projects according to the facility QAPI plan.

QUALIFICATIONS

Current California RN or LVN license
Prefer completion of CDC as well as California-approved Infection Prevention programs but we are willing to train as well as sponsor the right candidate
Prefer two years’ experience as a Licensed Nurse in a skilled nursing facility, including some supervisory experience
A people-person who is outgoing and gets along well with others
A background in education, training, or teaching is helpful in this position.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing time efficiently
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients and their families
Knowledge of infection control protocols and procedures
