Overview

Base pay plus tips. 30+$ per hour
We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Sushi Chef/Sushi Helper to join our culinary team. This role involves preparing authentic sushi dishes, assisting with kitchen operations, and ensuring the highest standards of food safety and presentation. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in Japanese cuisine, excellent knife skills, and experience in food preparation within a fast-paced restaurant environment. This position offers an opportunity to develop culinary skills and contribute to creating a memorable dining experience for our guests.

Responsibilities

Prepare sushi and other Japanese dishes according to established recipes and presentation standards
Assist in menu planning and ingredient selection for sushi offerings
Handle food preparation tasks including slicing fish, preparing rice, and assembling sushi rolls
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area in compliance with food safety regulations
Ensure proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures are followed at all times
Support the kitchen team during busy service hours by preparing ingredients and assisting with plating
Contribute to maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for guests through excellent food service practices
Follow all safety protocols related to knife skills, equipment use, and food handling

Experience

Previous experience in a culinary setting, particularly in sushi preparation or Japanese cuisine preferred
Background in the food industry, including restaurant or catering experience, is highly desirable
Skills in menu planning, meal preparation, and food presentation are advantageous
Knowledge of food safety standards and proper handling techniques is essential
Experience with dietary department or dietary aide roles can be beneficial but not required
Familiarity with kitchen operations such as cooking, food service, and serving will support success in this role
