Police Officer Trainee (Entry-Level)

Launch Your Law Enforcement Career with the Campbell Police Department

The Campbell Police Department is seeking motivated individuals who are ready to serve their community and begin a rewarding career in law enforcement. As a Police Officer Trainee, you will attend a California POST-Certified Basic Police Academy. Upon successful graduation, you will be sworn in as a Police Officer, begin an 18-month probationary period, and advance to the first step of the Police Officer salary range.

This is more than a job—it's an opportunity to build a career based on service, integrity, professionalism, and community partnership.

What You'll Do

Attend and successfully complete a California POST Basic Police Academy.
Learn to enforce Federal, State, and local laws.
Patrol assigned areas by vehicle, bicycle, motorcycle, or foot.
Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
Investigate crimes, collect evidence, and prepare detailed reports.
Make arrests and testify in court when required.
Build positive relationships with community members and support crime prevention efforts.
Maintain department equipment and assist other divisions as needed.

Ability to write clear, accurate reports.
Strong observation, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Commitment to serving a diverse community with integrity and respect.

Minimum Qualifications

40 semester units (60 quarter units) from an accredited college at the time of application.
At least 20½ years old when applying and 21 years old at appointment.
Valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
U.S. citizen or permanent resident who has applied for U.S. citizenship at least one year before applying (and application has not been denied).
Meet California POST medical, vision, and physical fitness standards.
No prior law enforcement experience required.

Selection Process
Qualified applicants may participate in:

PELLETB Written Examination (minimum T-Score of 50) or qualifying academy certification.
Physical agility test and 1.5-mile run.
Comprehensive background investigation.
Polygraph examination.
Psychological evaluation.
Medical examination.
