Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Travel Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Nurse to join our team and provide exceptional critical care to patients across diverse healthcare settings. This role offers the opportunity to work in various hospitals and medical facilities, delivering specialized nursing care in high-pressure environments. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for patient advocacy, excellent clinical skills, and the flexibility to adapt to different clinical settings. As a Travel ICU Nurse, you will play a vital role in managing complex cases, supporting multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes through expert care and compassionate communication.

Duties

Provide advanced critical care management for critically ill patients in ICU settings, including ventilator management, airway support, and hemodynamic monitoring
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological evaluations using EMR/EHR systems
Administer medications, IV infusions, injections, and perform procedures such as suturing, catheterization, and ostomy care with strict adherence to aseptic techniques
Collaborate with physicians and specialists on diagnostic evaluation, trauma medicine protocols, infectious disease care, and acute pain management strategies
Document all patient interactions accurately in electronic health records (EHR), ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and medical documentation standards
Assist with discharge planning, case management, and coordination of post-acute care services including hospice & palliative medicine or long-term care facilities
Respond swiftly to emergency situations utilizing critical care emergency response procedures like trauma response and neonatal resuscitation procedures

Skills

Extensive ICU experience with proficiency in ventilator management, airway management, and critical & intensive care protocols
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or eClinicalWorks; experience with ICD-9/ICD-10 coding is preferred
Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, and medical terminology relevant to critical care nursing
Ability to perform complex procedures including IV insertion, phlebotomy, laboratory specimen collection/processing, and sterile processing techniques
Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics (PICU), geriatrics (memory & dementia care), behavioral health patients, and individuals with developmental disabilities or disabilities
Skilled in trauma medicine at Level I & II trauma centers; experienced in emergency medicine and urgent care environments
Capable of managing acute pain cases using advanced pain management techniques; familiar with Workers’ Compensation law where applicable
Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams in hospital medicine or post-acute settings
