Forensic Structural Engineer - CTLGroup is currently seeking forensic structural engineers to join our Structural Engineering + Evaluation team in our Skokie, Illinois headquarters, as well as our Washington, DC and Texas locations. The candidate must have an interest in investigating and solving problems associated with existing structures and infrastructure, including evaluation of damage from natural and man-made disasters, investigation of structural failures and defects, and assessment and repair of structural deterioration. Work duties for the position may involve field inspections and testing, participation in laboratory studies, engineering analysis including calculations and computational modeling, report preparation, oral presentation of findings, and consultation with clients.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Master’s degree with a focus in structural engineering, 3-5 years of relevant experience, and be a licensed Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer in a U.S. jurisdiction. The candidate should have a strong background in structural mechanics, experience with technical computing, and experience with widely used business productivity software. He or she must be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, display a professional attitude, exercise timely and sound judgment, and be willing and able to work independently both in the field and in the office. Experience with business development is a plus.
This position may require physical exertion, including lifting up to 50 pounds, working in confined spaces, or working at heights in excess of six feet. Other tasks may require sitting and using a computer for prolonged periods of time. Some work may be performed in a laboratory environment or in the field under exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, fumes, and variations in temperature and humidity. Up to 40% travel may be required.
