Geotechnical Project Manager

Location: Austin, Texas
Employment Type: Full-time

Position Overview

A well-established Texas engineering consulting firm is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Project Manager to lead geotechnical investigation and engineering projects throughout the Austin region.

This position is responsible for managing projects from initial proposal and field investigation through engineering analysis, report preparation, client delivery, and project closeout. The successful candidate will combine strong technical geotechnical expertise with project management, client communication, financial oversight, and team leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities

Manage multiple geotechnical engineering projects while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget requirements.
Perform and review engineering analyses involving:
Shallow and deep foundations
Retaining structures
Settlement
Slope stability
Earthwork and site development
Plan and coordinate subsurface investigations, field activities, laboratory testing, and technical assignments.
Prepare, review, and approve geotechnical investigation reports and engineering recommendations.
Track project budgets, utilization, expenses, schedules, and overall financial performance.
Prepare project invoices in accordance with client requirements and billing schedules.
Develop proposals, scopes of work, schedules, and fee estimates for new projects.
Maintain strong client relationships and serve as a primary point of contact throughout project delivery.
Coordinate with internal technical teams, contractors, laboratories, and other project stakeholders.
Mentor and support junior engineers and technical staff.
Participate in business development, client engagement, and future project identification.
Ensure project deliverables comply with applicable engineering standards, specifications, and internal quality procedures.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
Eight or more years of directly related geotechnical engineering and project management experience.
Professional Engineer license in Texas, or the ability to obtain Texas licensure through reciprocity.
Demonstrated experience managing geotechnical projects, budgets, schedules, technical reports, and client relationships.
Strong knowledge of foundation engineering, settlement analysis, retaining structures, and slope stability.
Experience reviewing and sealing geotechnical engineering reports.
Strong written, verbal, analytical, and technical communication skills.
Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining attention to quality and client service.
Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel locally to project sites when required.

Preferred Background

Experience working on transportation, municipal, commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects in Texas.
Established relationships within the Central Texas engineering or construction market.
Previous experience mentoring engineers and supporting business development activities.
