Assistant Shelter Director

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Fall River (CCFR) is seeking an experienced Assistant Shelter Director to help oversee the daily operations of St. Joseph's Shelter, an emergency overnight shelter serving individuals experiencing homelessness.
Working alongside the Shelter Director, you'll help lead a dedicated team committed to providing safe, trauma-informed care while helping guests secure permanent housing through a Housing First approach. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced human services leader who is passionate about ending homelessness and making a lasting impact in the community.
What You'll Do
- Assist in overseeing the daily operations of the shelter and day program.
- Supervise and support shelter staff, case managers, shift supervisors, and volunteers.
- Help ensure a safe, welcoming, trauma-informed environment for guests.
- Coordinate staff schedules and provide operational coverage when needed.
- Partner with case management staff to connect guests with housing, healthcare, employment, and community resources.
- Respond to client crises and support staff in managing challenging situations.
- Monitor shelter operations, documentation, safety procedures, and compliance with EOHLC and agency requirements.
- Build relationships with community partners, housing providers, and local service agencies.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and staff development.
- Monitor program performance and recommend improvements to strengthen outcomes.
- Represent the shelter at community meetings and collaborative initiatives.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency situations as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in homelessness services, emergency shelter operations, housing programs, or related human services.
- At least 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, trauma, and substance use disorders.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Valid driver's license and reliable, insured vehicle required.

Pay: $58,000.00 - $62,500.00 per year
