We are seeking a Weld Leadman who is a journeyman-level fabricator, provides day-to-day coordination, hands-on training and support for all projects during the fabrication process. This role supports the Welding Foreman by maintaining safety, quality, communicating priorities and continuous improvement initiatives related to all welding processes. The Welding Leadman is a working lead with soft supervisory authority and is expected to model TMF’s standards of craftsmanship, professionalism, and ownership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform highly skilled welding as needed based on shop needs including FCM & RT quality welds.
- Identify complex weldments on the shop floor, equipment needs, and potential risk areas; communicate proactively with the Weld Foreman and supporting production teams.
- Train and mentor welding personnel on proper techniques and procedures.
- Maintain organized work areas and ensure proper sequencing of tasks for efficient progress.
- Monitor work quality and raise issues early to QC, Mechanic and or the Weld Foreman.
- Ensure compliance with welding procedures, quality requirements and safety policies/ procedures.
- Coordinate with weld management, quality, and production departments.
- Maintain and enforce required job documentation such as welder IDs, consumable logs and Job Control Documents (JCD’s) when applicable.
- Shift to shift turn-overs on a daily basis.
- Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of heavy fabrication experience; TMF experience preferred.
- Must meet all requirements of a Fab-1 classification or higher.
- Trained & authorized in forklift operation, scissor lifts, boom lifts, rigging, and overhead crane use.
- Strong welding skills in multiple processes including FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, and SAW.
- Effective communication, leadership presence, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to coordinate work without formal supervisory authority and maintain high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a structural steel fabrication shop with exposure to welding, grinding, cutting, heat, noise, and heavy equipment. Requires physical work including welding, grinding, CAC, lifting, bending, climbing, working at heights or in tight spaces, and wearing required PPE.
