Work With Horses. Make a Difference.
If you'd rather start your day in the barn than behind a desk, Camp Kostopulos (Camp K) may be the place for you.
We're looking for a dependable, hardworking, and caring Equestrian Stable Hand to help care for the horses that make Camp K's adaptive and recreational equestrian programs possible.
Camp K provides recreation and growth opportunities for children, teens, and adults of all abilities. Our Equestrian Program gives participants opportunities to develop confidence, independence, horsemanship skills, and meaningful connections with horses.
As a Stable Hand, you'll play an important role behind the scenes by making sure our horses receive excellent daily care and our barn remains clean, safe, organized, and ready for participants.
This is a hands-on horse-care position. Expect early mornings, physical work, Utah weather, dirty boots—and the satisfaction of knowing that healthy, well-cared-for horses are essential to every successful Camp K riding experience.
What You'll Do
Provide Excellent Daily Horse Care
Our horses are valued members of the Camp K team, and their health and well-being come first.
Daily responsibilities may include:
- Feed and water horses according to established feeding plans.
- Turn horses out and bring horses in safely.
- Muck, clean, and bed stalls.
- Clean and refill water buckets and troughs.
- Groom and provide routine horse care.
- Prepare feed, hay, and supplements as directed.
- Observe horses daily for changes in behavior, appetite, movement, condition, injuries, or signs of illness.
- Promptly report horse-health concerns to Equestrian Program leadership.
- Assist with schooling or exercising horses when qualified and assigned.
- Help maintain clean and safe paddocks, stalls, aisles, tack areas, feed areas, and other equestrian facilities.
- Clean and properly store tack, grooming supplies, tools, and equipment.
- Monitor feed, bedding, hay, and barn supplies and communicate when inventory is getting low.
Help Keep the Barn Safe & Ready
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional barn environment.
- Follow established horse-handling, barn-safety, and risk-management procedures.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, fencing concerns, or other hazards.
- Help prepare horses and barn areas for lessons, programs, summer camp, and special events.
- Follow Camp K policies and procedures related to horses, facilities, equipment, participants, and safety.
- Respond appropriately to horse, participant, staff, weather, or environmental situations requiring immediate attention.
- Assist with opening and closing barn duties as assigned.
Support the Camp K Equestrian Program
Although horse care is the primary focus of this position, our Stable Hands are part of the larger Camp K team.
You will:
- Work collaboratively with Equestrian Instructors, program staff, volunteers, and organizational leadership.
- Help create a welcoming environment for participants, students, families, volunteers, and visitors.
- Interact professionally and respectfully with individuals of all abilities.
- Assist with equestrian programs, summer camp, special events, and other barn activities as assigned.
- Communicate clearly with coworkers about horse care, barn conditions, supplies, and safety concerns.
- Be willing to jump in and help when the team needs you.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who understands that good horse care requires consistency, attention to detail, hard work, and reliability.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Previous hands-on experience caring for and safely handling horses.
- Knowledge of basic horsemanship, grooming, feeding, horse behavior, and equine health.

- Comfortable safely leading, handling, grooming, and working around horses of different sizes and temperaments.
- Ability to successfully complete a practical horse-handling and horsemanship assessment.
- Dependable and able to work assigned shifts consistently.
- Ability and willingness to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- Willingness to work outdoors and in a barn environment during hot, cold, wet, snowy, muddy, and dusty conditions.
- Ability to perform physically demanding barn work, including standing and walking for extended periods, bending, pushing, pulling, shoveling, carrying feed and water, and repeatedly lifting approximately 50 pounds or more.
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Demonstrated responsibility, maturity, integrity, and good judgment.
- Ability to work independently while also being a positive member of a team.
- Ability to successfully complete required background screening.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record if driving is required as part of assigned duties.

- Notice quickly when a horse isn't acting like itself.

- Don't mind getting dirty.
- Can handle an early morning when it's cold outside.
- Understand that horses need excellent care 365 days a year, including weekends and holidays.

- Show up when you're scheduled and understand that horses and coworkers are counting on you.
- Enjoy being part of a positive team.
- Want your work with horses to support a meaningful mission.
Schedule
This position requires a flexible schedule based on the daily care needs of Camp K's horses and Equestrian Program.
Shifts may include:
- Early mornings
- Evenings
- Weekends
- Holidays
Because our horses require care every day of the year, weekend and holiday availability is an important part of this position.
Specific schedules and anticipated weekly hours will be discussed during the interview process.
Why Work at Camp K?
At Camp K, taking great care of a horse has an impact that goes far beyond the barn.

Your work makes those experiences possible.
You'll have the opportunity to work with horses in a unique, mission-driven environment while being part of a team committed to inclusion, recreation, personal growth, and fun.
