Open Position: Finance Coordinator

About Us

Wilderness Youth Project (WYP), founded in 1999, nurtures smarter, healthier and happier children who feel a sustained connection to nature and are peaceful, self-aware community members. WYP connects kids to nature in small groups guided by skilled mentors during the school day, after school and in summer. We know that all children need nature: not just the ones whose families have privilege and easy access to nature and not only those of a certain race or economic class or culture or gender or sexual identity or language or set of abilities.

Job Summary

The Finance Coordinator is a part time role responsible for supporting the financial operations of WYP. This position supports accounts payable and receivable, maintains accurate financial records, and ensures timely reconciliation and reporting. The Finance Coordinator works closely with the Finance Manager and a number of other members of the administrative team to support well-organized, audit-ready financial systems.

This role is based in Santa Barbara with a hybrid schedule (in person & remote) and typically works 10 to 15 hours per week.

Core Responsibilities

Accounts Payable & Receivable

Process accounts payable and accounts receivable using QuickBooks Online
Prepare weekly accounts payable
Prepare and record deposits for program fees, donations, and other revenue sources
Monitor the billing email account and respond to inquiries in a timely manner

Financial Recordkeeping & Systems

Maintain accurate and organized financial records using Egnyte (a secure, cloud based file server) in a paperless, audit-ready format
Record invoices, bill payments, and credit card transactions and maintain vendor records in QuickBooks Online and Rippling (human resources information system) as needed

Reconciliation & Reporting

Prepare and review monthly reconciliations for bank, credit card, and investment accounts
Perform scheduled financial adjustments, including prepaid expenses and deferred revenue

Organizational Collaboration

Assist with special projects as assigned

Qualifications & Skills

Required Skills & Experience

Training or coursework in basic accounting principles
Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks Online preferred)
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Clear written and verbal communication skills
At least 1–2 years of bookkeeping experience
Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive) and familiarity with CRM databases (Salesforce preferred)
Positive, service-oriented attitude

Desired Skills

Experience working in a non-profit environment and with non-profit financial standards

Compensation & Benefits

Part-time, hourly/non-exempt (10-15 hours/week)
$24-$28 / hour depending on experience,
Pay Scale Category: Admin Support Coordinator or Admin Lead Coordinator (DOE)
