Full Job Description

As the Purchasing Assistant at Kawahara Nurseries, Inc., you will support a critical part of the Operations branch by managing the purchasing and inventory process for hard goods. Reporting directly to the Purchasing Supervisor, your focus will include tracking forecast progress, aligning inventory with future needs, and communicating with vendors. Your goal is to ensure timely, accurate purchasing and delivery of pots, inserts, trays, tags, and handles—maintaining optimal inventory levels to support production plans.

This role requires exceptional attention to detail, time management, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Request and enter hard goods inventory data.
Process manager-generated orders and create Purchase Orders (POs).
Match invoices to confirm accurate pricing.
Update product pricing in Picas.
Receive goods in Picas and coordinate with the Hard Goods team.
Verify late additions against current inventory.
Maintain and update purchasing metrics (within the KNI catalog).
Audit Picas material requirements during forecast reviews.
Enter purchased hard goods information into internal database.
Confirm and track ship dates for orders with vendors and frequently communicate for updates.
Approve invoices and submit for payment

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
Valid driver’s license
Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
Strong verbal and written communication skills
High-level computer proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets, email)
Strong attention to detail
Highly organized
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
Positive and proactive attitude

Kawahara Nurseries (http://kniplants.com) is a third generation family business with 400+ employees. We produce outdoor garden plants at two facilities in Morgan Hill, CA and Gilroy, CA. We are hiring for an entry-level position to help us continue improving our online and digital presence.
