College and Career Advisor

Reports To: Program Director
Position Type: Full-Time Exempt (FTE) with summers off.

About College and Career Plaza:

College and Career Plaza (CCP) ensures every high school student in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico graduates with a meaningful plan for their future and the confidence to pursue it. CCP provides career coaching, college advising and post graduation transition support for students and families.

Position Summary

The College and Career Program Advisor provides college and career advising and education services to students and families at Santa Fe High School. This position helps students explore careers, identify strengths and interests, develop postsecondary plans, and navigate pathways that may include college, workforce training, apprenticeships, military service, entrepreneurship, or direct employment.

This role prioritizes helping students connect their education to meaningful career pathways and long-term goals.

Essential Responsibilities

Career Coaching & Student Support

Provide individualized career coaching and college advising to students and families.
Support students in career exploration, goal-setting, resume development, workforce readiness, internships, scholarship opportunities, college applications, financial aid, and postsecondary planning.
Help students identify strengths, interests, values, and career pathways through culturally responsive and student-centered advising practices.
Promote career awareness and workforce opportunities aligned with student aspirations and regional economic opportunities.
Maintain accurate and confidential student records, case notes, and service data.

Programming & Career Development

Collaborate with CCP leadership to develop and implement grade-appropriate career development and college readiness workshops.
Plan and facilitate weekly workshops focused on career exploration, workforce readiness, leadership development, financial literacy, college access, and transition planning.
Coordinate presentations, career talks, job shadowing opportunities, and campus visits from colleges, trade schools, employers, workforce partners, and community professionals.
Support students in accessing internships, employment opportunities, apprenticeships, and career-connected learning experiences.

Outreach & Collaboration

Build and maintain collaborative relationships with teachers, counselors, administrators, employers, and community partners.
Conduct regular student outreach through classroom visits, email, visual campaigns, events, Remind, and other communication strategies to increase participation in CCP services.
Maintain and organize digital and print career, college, scholarship, internship, and employment resources.
Submit bi-weekly site reports, including program updates, student success stories, and mission moments.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred OR equivalent experience in education, workforce development, counseling, youth development, or related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with youth in advising, career coaching, counseling, mentoring, workforce development, or facilitation settings.
Strong understanding of career development, workforce readiness, youth leadership, and college access principles.
Ability to build positive relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
Strong organizational, communication, and facilitation skills.
Proficiency with Google Workspace, including Docs, Sheets, Calendar, and Drive.
Ability to work independently in a hybrid nonprofit environment.
Flexibility to support occasional evening and weekend events.
