The Bureau of Health Emergency Management (BHEM) is a part of the Center for Health Protection (CHP) within the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH). We are responsible for planning, coordinating, and supporting the state's public health emergency preparedness and response efforts (FEMA ESF-8). We work with several key partners and stakeholders across the state, along with tribal partners and federal agencies to prepare for and respond to health emergencies such as disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and other hazards that impact population health.
Why does the job exist?

This position exists for the tracking and reporting of work plan activities and deliverables that are outlined in the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) grant. The position will manage multiple projects and work closely with local and state partners.

This position will utilize multiple programs, such as Excel, to maintain and track performance and/or data in support of activities required by federal grants and the NM Department of Health. This position will also help develop and submit grant applications within the federal systems, they will conduct, schedule and attend meetings, conferences and carry out all other duties as assigned.
How does it get done?

Incumbent will work with subject matter experts to update and maintain performance outcomes coordination to ensure deadlines are met. Incumbent will also oversee and maintain the development of work plan activities based on guidance from subject matter experts.
Who are the customers?

Incumbent will provide support for New Mexico Department of Health, Bureau of Health Emergency Management's Grants Manager as well as other staff and personnel to ensure accurate and efficient tracking of grant deliverables.
Ideal Candidate

Minimum Qualification

Associate Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Accounting and one (1) year of directly related job experience in the areas of office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management, contract management, and/or in the procedures of business and management principles involved in strategic planning. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with standing for extended periods of time may be required. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Office noise, bending, standing and lifting. Some travel with occasional overnight stay may be required. There maybe potential for mandatory overtime as well during public health emergency activations.
