Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Medical Insurance Verification Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of health insurance policies, medical billing, and insurance verification processes. In this role, you will be responsible for verifying patient insurance coverage, obtaining prior authorizations, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA. Your expertise will support seamless patient care delivery by accurately managing insurance information and facilitating communication between patients, providers, and insurance companies.

Duties

Verify patient insurance coverage by reviewing policy details and confirming eligibility through electronic health records (EHR) systems and insurance portals.
Obtain insurance prior authorization for procedures, treatments, or hospital admissions by liaising with insurance providers and following up as necessary.
Review medical records and documentation to ensure accuracy in CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding for billing purposes.
Maintain detailed records of all verification activities while adhering to clinical confidentiality policies and HIPAA regulations.
Communicate effectively with patients to gather necessary insurance information and explain coverage limitations or requirements.
Collaborate with medical office staff to ensure proper documentation of insurance details within electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Stay updated on health insurance policies, managed care protocols, and changes in healthcare regulations to ensure compliance.
Support the billing department by providing accurate insurance verification data to facilitate timely claims processing.

Skills

Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies to protect patient information.
Proficiency in medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10 coding, and ICD coding standards for accurate billing and documentation.
Experience with electronic health records (EHR) management systems and Microsoft Office applications for record keeping and reporting.
In-depth understanding of health insurance policies, managed care plans, and the prior authorization process.
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and professionally.
Familiarity with medical billing procedures, medical records management, and healthcare compliance standards.
Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced medical office environment while maintaining attention to detail.
