Full Job Description

Job Title: Part-Time Licensed School Nurse (0.5 FTE)

Reports To: Principal

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: 20 hours per week (0.5 FTE), school-year calendar

Position Summary:

The Licensed School Nurse promotes the health and well-being of students by providing a broad range of school health services, health education, and health-related advocacy. The nurse supports student success by implementing practices that address physical, mental, emotional, and social health needs in alignment with school and district goals. This position is part-time and requires current licensure through the New Mexico Public Education Department (NM PED).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide direct nursing services, including first aid, medication administration, chronic disease management, and emergency care.
Assess and document student health status; develop and implement individual healthcare plans (IHPs) for students with chronic or acute health conditions.
Monitor compliance with state immunization and health screening requirements.
Collaborate with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to support student health and academic success.
Identify and report communicable diseases as required by state law; coordinate with local health departments when necessary.
Educate students, staff, and families about health-related topics, including hygiene, nutrition, chronic illness, and mental health awareness.
Maintain accurate and confidential health records in accordance with FERPA, HIPAA, and school policy.
Participate in IEP, 504, and student support meetings as needed.
Serve as a health resource for staff and participate in the development of school-wide health and safety policies and procedures.
Assist with crisis response and emergency preparedness planning.
Perform other duties as assigned by administration in support of student health and learning.

Qualifications:

Required:

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of New Mexico.
New Mexico Public Education Department (NM PED) School Nurse License or eligibility to obtain such licensure.
CPR/First Aid certification.
Minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience.

Preferred:

Experience in teenage health, public health, or school nursing.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
Knowledge of PowerSchool or electronic health record systems.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a school environment with frequent interaction with students, parents, staff, and medical professionals.
Requires ability to respond quickly in medical emergencies.
May involve occasional lifting or physical assistance with students.
