Posting Details

The Law Enforcement Records Bureau (LERB) gathers, preserves, and disseminates criminal justice data in support of public safety. Through state and federal partnerships, LERB serves as the state's official repository for millions of fingerprint records and criminal history records. The bureau functions at a high operational tempo with large volumes of data, records, and modernization projects. While administrative in nature, LERB personnel oversee core components of New México's public safety infrastructure and directly impact law enforcement officers, government entities, and the public.

This position exists within the Customer Engagement Support Unit (CESU). This public-facing team provides services such as name-based background checks conducted against New Mexico records only, Letters of Good Standing, fingerprinting, and customer support by appointment, walk-in, or mail.
Why does the job exist?

This public-facing position exists to deliver administrative services for customers that range from members of the public to government agencies. Services include fingerprinting, background checks, and Letters of Good standing support to support public safety needs, hiring processes, clear volunteers, and satisfy international traveling rules. The role provides administrative assistance with answering phone calls and processing received mail.
How does it get done?

Customer Service: Promptly and professionally respond to customer questions and phone calls. Provide customers with positive, engaging fingerprint services, criminal history reports, and Letters of Good Standing. Process payments and perform cashier responsibilities.

Maintain Records Compliance: Preserve confidentiality when handling sensitive and protected information. Follow established procedures, policies, and applicable requirements for records retrieval, processing, and dissemination.

Minimum Qualification

High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in office administration, customer service, records management technique and procedures, basic accounting, and/or business administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one year (1) year may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements

Successful employment is contingent upon passing a national fingerprint-based background check prior to employment. Continued employment requires a felony-free record, in compliance with the CJIS Security Policy. Statewide travel is required.

In addition, the selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate from the State of New Mexico.
Working Conditions

This position is based in an office environment, involving extensive use of computers, video display terminals, and telephones, with extended periods of sitting. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds, along with frequent walking, standing, sitting, and bending. Occasional statewide travel may be required.

Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with a 1-hour lunch. Currently, DPS does not offer telework arrangements.
