Full Job Description

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic healthcare team. This vital role involves supporting laboratory operations through specimen collection, processing, and management, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and safety standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in laboratory techniques, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality. This position offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to patient care and clinical research efforts within a reputable medical facility.

1 year acute care hospital experience and emergency room experience

The shifts for this position are as follows (They can be scheduled any day of the week)

Shift days
- 5 – 1330
- 530 – 1400
- 1400 – 2230

Responsibilities

Collect, process, and manage biological samples in accordance with laboratory procedures and safety protocols.
Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection using aseptic techniques.
Maintain accurate laboratory records through data entry into Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and other electronic databases.
Prepare specimens for testing, including labeling, storage, and transportation following CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) regulations.
Assist with laboratory management tasks such as inventory control, equipment calibration, and quality assurance activities.
Support research laboratory activities by following detailed protocols and maintaining sample integrity.
Ensure compliance with clinical confidentiality policies and maintain patient privacy at all times.
Collaborate with medical staff to facilitate specimen collection for specialized procedures such as spinal taps or cardiac catheterization.
Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment by adhering to aseptic techniques and safety standards.
Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals to provide excellent customer service.

Skills

Proven experience in medical or clinical laboratory work, including specimen collection and processing.
Strong knowledge of laboratory management, techniques, and procedures.
Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and data entry tools.
Familiarity with CLIA regulations, medical terminology, and anatomy relevant to sample collection.
Competence in venipuncture, phlebotomy, spinal taps, and catheterization procedures.
Knowledge of physiology principles applicable to clinical testing environments.
Experience working within hospital or research laboratory settings is highly desirable.
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality while managing sensitive information.
Excellent communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration.
Basic life support (BLS) certification is preferred or required depending on the facility’s policies.
