Aces Business Solutions is seeking an experienced Part-Time Controller to take ownership of accounting and month-end close activities for a small portfolio of client accounts.
This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working independently, solving accounting problems, and delivering clean, accurate financial statements without requiring significant day-to-day oversight.
Our clients include construction, automotive, and restaurants, so accrual and WIP experience is a must.
Our goal is simple:
You own the accounting. We rely on you to make sure the books are accurate, reconciled, and ready for CFO review each month.
We’re Looking for Someone Who Is
- Comfortable taking ownership and working independently
- Confident investigating accounting discrepancies and determining the appropriate next step
- An excellent communicator who can clearly explain accounting issues and recommended solutions
- Organized and able to manage multiple clients, deadlines, and competing priorities
- Proactive rather than task-driven
- Adaptable and comfortable learning new technologies, systems, and client workflows
- Interested in process improvement and modern accounting practices
- Able to recognize when financial statements or account balances do not make sense
- Comfortable making accounting decisions within their area of responsibility and escalating only issues requiring CFO or client input
Ideal Experience Includes
- Controller or Assistant Controller experience
- Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager experience with significant month-end close responsibility
- Client Accounting Services (CAS)
- Outsourced accounting
- Public accounting
- Managing multiple clients or business entities
- Leading accounting operations or month-end close functions
- Preparing accrual-basis financial statements
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Adjusting journal entries
- Accounts receivable and accounts payable review
- Payroll and liability reconciliations
- Financial statement review and variance analysis
Experience with QuickBooks Online and cloud-based accounting systems is required.
We work across multiple platforms and value professionals who are adaptable, technology-forward, and comfortable learning new systems.
Construction accounting experience is highly desirable, including exposure to:
- Job costing
- Work in progress (WIP)
- Progress billing
- Customer deposits and deferred revenue
- Retainage
- Subcontractor accounting
- Accrued payroll and commissions
- Project profitability
What You’ll Own
For your assigned clients, you will be responsible for taking the accounting through monthly close and delivering financial statements that are ready for CFO review.
This may include:
- Reviewing bookkeeping activity for accuracy and completeness
- Reconciling bank and credit card accounts
- Reconciling balance sheet accounts
- Reviewing accounts receivable and accounts payable
- Investigating unusual or incorrect balances
- Preparing and posting adjusting journal entries
- Reconciling payroll liabilities and loans
- Reviewing accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, deposits, and deferred revenue
- Reviewing the general ledger for misclassifications and unusual activity
- Performing month-end close procedures
- Reviewing the Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet for reasonableness
- Preparing monthly financial statements
- Documenting accounting issues and recommendations
- Escalating material matters requiring CFO judgment or client clarification
What Success Looks Like
We are not looking for someone who simply identifies accounting problems.
We are looking for someone who investigates them.
If a reconciliation does not tie, you determine why.
If Accounts Receivable has an unusual credit balance, you trace the transactions creating it.
If something on the Balance Sheet does not make sense, you investigate it before escalating the issue.
The ideal monthly handoff sounds like:
“The month is closed and the financial statements are ready for review. I made the following adjustments, and these two items require your input.”
