Purchasing Manager / Shop ManagerL.R. Cowan Concrete Co., Inc. – Phoenix, AZ

L.R. Cowan Concrete is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager / Shop Manager to oversee purchasing, equipment management, fleet coordination, vendor relationships, and shop operations. This is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring our field crews have the materials, equipment, and support they need to keep projects running safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

ResponsibilitiesPurchasing & Procurement

Purchase materials, tools, and equipment for commercial concrete projects.
Coordinate material orders and deliveries to jobsites and the office.
Monitor inventory levels and maintain adequate stock of commonly used materials.
Research pricing, negotiate with vendors, and secure the best value for the company.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors.
Purchase large and small equipment, tools, and fleet vehicles as needed.
Coordinate truck purchases and equipment acquisitions.

Equipment & Fleet Management

Coordinate and track all company-owned equipment assigned to field projects.
Schedule, order, and monitor rental equipment to ensure timely delivery and pickup.
Oversee preventative maintenance and repairs for:
Company trucks
Trailers
Heavy equipment
Small tools and equipment
Coordinate truck and equipment repairs with outside vendors.
Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
Track equipment usage and availability to maximize efficiency.

Shop Operations

Oversee daily operations of the company shop.
Coordinate welding and fabrication projects as needed.
Ensure shop organization, cleanliness, and safety standards are maintained.
Manage equipment repairs and oversee trailer maintenance.
Coordinate washout tracking and compliance.
Oversee company building maintenance and facility needs.

Administrative Responsibilities

Maintain purchasing records and equipment logs.
Track vendor pricing and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Ensure timely ordering to prevent project delays.
Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Dispatch, and Accounting.
Assist with budgeting for equipment purchases and repairs.

Qualifications

Experience in purchasing, equipment management, fleet management, or shop management.
Construction industry experience required (commercial concrete experience preferred).
Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
Knowledge of heavy equipment, construction tools, trailers, and commercial vehicles.
Mechanical knowledge is a plus.
Welding and fabrication experience is preferred but not required.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and computer systems.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver's license.
