Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Powder Coating Technician to operate and maintain an industrial powder coating operation in Vero Beach, Florida.
This is not an entry-level powder coating position.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on powder coating experience and understand the complete production process—from receiving and organizing parts through hanging, coating, curing, inspection, packaging, and preparing completed work for shipment.
This position requires someone who can work independently, manage their workload, and take ownership of the powder coating process without constant supervision.
This is a hands-on industrial position. The work environment can be hot, dusty, dirty, physically demanding, and loud. Candidates should be comfortable working in these conditions and take pride in producing consistent, high-quality finished products.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Review work orders and identify parts scheduled for coating.
- Organize and group parts to ensure complete jobs remain together throughout production.
- Determine appropriate hanging methods and rack configurations.
- Hang parts on stationary racks and overhead conveyor systems.
- Properly ground parts for powder application.
- Set up and operate powder coating spray equipment.
- Select and properly handle powder according to job specifications.
- Apply powder evenly and consistently to achieve required finish and coverage.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and correct common coating defects.
- Review and verify manufacturer cure schedules for powders being used.
- Understand the relationship between oven temperature, part/metal temperature, and required cure time.
- Load and unload the powder coating oven.
- Monitor cure cycles and ensure parts receive the proper time at temperature.
- Inspect finished parts for coverage, finish quality, contamination, defects, and damage.
- Remove completed products from racks and conveyor systems.
- Keep completed jobs organized and properly accounted for.
- Package finished products to prevent scratching, chipping, rubbing, or other damage.
- Prepare completed materials for customer pickup or shipment.
Powder & Material Inventory
The Powder Coating Technician will also assist with material control and inventory, including:
- Receiving and identifying powder coating materials.
- Maintaining accurate powder inventory.
- Properly labeling and storing powders.
- Maintaining clean and organized powder storage areas.
- Monitoring quantities and communicating when materials need to be reordered.
- Maintaining appropriate job and material documentation.
- Preventing cross-contamination between powders and colors.
- Properly handling and storing opened powder.
- Tracking powder usage for individual jobs when required.
- Maintaining manufacturer technical data and cure information.
Equipment Maintenance & Cleaning
This position is responsible for routine cleaning and operator-level maintenance of powder coating equipment and work areas, including:
- Powder coating guns and controls.
- Hoses, pumps, pickup tubes, and related equipment.
- Powder booth.
- Racks and hanging equipment.
- Hooks and grounding/contact points.
- Overhead conveyor system.
- Powder coating oven.
- Compressed-air-related equipment within the coating operation.
- Production and material storage areas.
The technician should be able to recognize potential equipment problems and communicate maintenance needs before they result in production delays or quality issues.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Candidates must have intermediate-level or greater hands-on powder coating experience.
Qualified candidates should demonstrate knowledge and experience with:
- Industrial powder coating application.
- Powder gun setup and adjustment.
- Proper grounding techniques.
- Part hanging and racking.
- Powder handling and storage.
- Color changes and contamination prevention.
- Powder coating cure schedules.
- Industrial oven operation.
- Quality inspection.
- Troubleshooting common powder coating defects.
- Basic equipment maintenance and cleaning.
- Reading work orders and following written production instructions.
- Maintaining accurate material and production records.
Forklift Operation
Previous forklift experience is required.
The Powder Coating Technician must be able to safely operate a forklift for:
- Moving and staging materials.
- Loading and unloading racks.
- Moving completed products.
- Receiving materials.
- Preparing materials for shipment.
Company-specific equipment and safety training will be provided as necessary.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to work:
- Around industrial ovens and elevated temperatures.
- In hot working conditions.
- In a dusty and dirty industrial environment.
- Around loud machinery and production equipment.
- On your feet for extended periods.
- With frequent bending, reaching, lifting, hanging, and handling of parts.
- While wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
This is not a climate-controlled production environment.
Independence & Accountability
Much of this position involves working independently.
The successful candidate should be able to receive a work order, understand the requirements, organize the job, complete the coating process correctly, maintain quality standards, and move the job through completion without requiring continuous direction.

Compensation
$24.00–$30.00 per hour, depending on demonstrated experience and capability.
Compensation within the range will be based on the candidate's ability to independently perform the complete powder coating process.
Candidates with advanced experience in the following areas may qualify toward the higher end of the range:
- Powder application and gun setup.
- Troubleshooting coating defects.
- Cure schedules and oven operation.
- Powder inventory and material control.
- Equipment maintenance.
- Production organization.
- Independent powder coating operations.
