Job Title: **IL/TRAILS Advocate

Location: **Seward, AK

Who We Are:

Independent Living Center (ILC) is a leader in the disability advocacy arena in Alaska. ILC assists Alaskans of all ages and disabilities residing in the Gulf Coast Region of Alaska to live as independently as possible in the homes and communities of their choice. ILC is also an Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC), providing information, referral and options counseling regarding long term supports and services. ILC has four offices located in Homer, Soldotna, Kodiak and Seward and provides outreach/itinerant services to communities in the Valdez/Cordova Census Area.

Job Summary:

The IL/TRAILS Advocate is responsible for supporting individuals with disabilities to achieve greater self-determination and self-advocacy. This position works with a Developmental Disability Resource Connections staff, ADRC & Veterans Services staff in the Seward ILC office as well as the other ILC staff in three other offices.

For TRAILS you will work to schedule and facilitate inclusive recreation opportunities for persons experiencing disabilities and other social and adventure style activities participants may be interested in.

IL/TRAILS Advocate Responsibilities and Duties:

Conduct IL intake interviews and complete IL plans with individuals based on their goals.
Assist individuals to meet the goals they selected in their IL plans.
Provide five Core IL services as requested by individuals.
Complete all data entry requirements for individuals served.
Provide information for grant reporting upon request.
Represent ILC in local community meetings and events.
Coordinate with Low Vision and Assistive Technology Specialists as requested.
Participate in relevant trainings.
With input from TRAILS participants, plan, coordinate, and attend TRAILS activities in and outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends when necessary.
Plan activities specific to TRAILS participant requests as requested.
Plan, with the help of TRAILS staff and supervisor, One Hit Wonders during the year.
Provide regular planning meetings with TRAILS participants.
Oversee and monitor TRAILS progress, quality and outcomes of the Seward TRAILS program.
Attend ILC mandatory meetings and trainings.
Work as a team member with the supervisor and Seward staff to ensure office coverage.
Gather documentation and information to be included in ILC grant reporting.

Office Support Responsibilities and Duties:

Back-up, Office Support including reception, scheduling and Community Closet loans.
Oversee the Supported Transportation Program; selling of vouchers and required data collection.
Complete banking deposits weekly.
Carry out other assignments as requested.

Skills & Experience Required:

Embraces the Independent Living Philosophy
Ability to work independently and as a team member
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Expertise with personal computers, including data base management
3 years of experience providing direct human services
Experience providing services to seniors and people with disabilities
Thorough understanding of human services delivery system, including human services systems commonly used by people with disabilities and seniors, and other social service resources as well as state and federal benefits programs

Wage, Benefits and Hours:

This position is full time 32+ hours/week job and year round. Wage $23.00-$24.50/hour, DOE. Benefits include access to Health Reimbursement Account, 401K, paid holidays and personal leave.

Priority will be given to qualified individuals with a disability.

Pay: $23.00 - $24.50 per hour

Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week
