Indirect BuyerJob Summary

NTN Driveshaft, Inc., a leading manufacturer in the automotive industry, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Indirect Buyer to join our Purchasing team. This position is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing indirect materials and services that support daily manufacturing operations, including MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations) supplies, tool crib inventory, facilities, office supplies, and other indirect spend categories.

The ideal candidate will have 1–3 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the automotive industry, with knowledge of indirect procurement processes, supplier management, and cost reduction initiatives. This role works closely with internal departments and suppliers to ensure materials and services are available while maintaining quality, delivery, and cost objectives.

Essential Responsibilities

Purchase indirect materials and services including MRO supplies, tool crib inventory, facilities maintenance items, office supplies, and other operational requirements.
Develop and execute sourcing strategies for assigned indirect spend categories.
Solicit quotations, evaluate supplier proposals, negotiate pricing, delivery, and contract terms to achieve the best overall value.
Create and manage purchase orders using ERP systems such as JD Edwards, SAP, Oracle, AS400, or similar platforms.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels for MRO and tool crib items while minimizing excess inventory.
Partner with Maintenance, Production, Engineering, Finance, Logistics, and other departments to understand purchasing requirements and support operational needs.
Monitor supplier performance related to quality, delivery, cost, and responsiveness, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Analyze purchasing data and spending trends using Microsoft Excel to identify cost savings and process improvement opportunities.
Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier documentation, and contract files while ensuring compliance with company purchasing policies.
Research market conditions and identify new suppliers to improve competitiveness and supply continuity.
Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance procurement efficiency and reduce overall operating costs.

Qualifications

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Purchasing, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
1–3 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment required.
Experience purchasing indirect materials, MRO supplies, tool crib inventory, or facility-related products is strongly preferred.
Automotive manufacturing purchasing experience is preferred.
Working knowledge of procurement principles, supplier negotiations, and inventory management.
Experience using ERP systems such as JD Edwards, SAP, Oracle EBS, AS400, or similar purchasing software.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis and reporting.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build strong supplier and cross-functional relationships.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.
Knowledge of contract administration and supplier performance management.
Familiarity with manufacturing operations and production support functions.
