Summary/Primary Role:
The Lab Supervisor functions as the managing technologist, under the guidance of the Lab Director, and is responsible for being part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, development and implementation of objectives for the Lab. The Lab Supervisor is responsible for coordinating all technical and logistical functions to ensure prompt and accurate testing and reporting of results for all laboratory samples within established timeframes. The Lab Supervisor functions within the scope of practice regulated by State and National government as well as various accrediting agencies.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

- Works as a bench technologist approximately 50% of the time, microbiology, histology (grossing), urine cytology and urine FISH patient samples, semen analysis, urinalysis.
- Supervise all PMG laboratory staff. Performs all personnel functions for all laboratory staff including approving PTO, preparing bi-weekly time sheets, and completing all annual evaluations.
- Oversee daily operations of clinical and pathology laboratory, including LIS and interfaces with EMR, and equipment maintenance agreements.
- Maintains all laboratory records and procedure manuals in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Monitors laboratory performance for compliance with accreditation, federal, and state regulatory requirements and reports deficiencies to administration.
- Performs annual CLEP permit renewal including compiling GAR (Gross Annual Receipts) totals.
- Writes/updates lab policies and SOPs as necessary.
- Analyzes new tests to be implemented at PMG and assists in equipment acquisition and validation studies before new process put into use in conjunction with the Laboratory Medical Director.
- Acquires appropriate proficiency testing material that meets NYSDOH guidelines. Reviews, results, and provides corrective action as needed.
- Has an active HCS (Health Commerce System) as a coordinator to report in ECLRS and perform eCLEP duties.
- Ensures competencies are performed by all staff on hire, in six months, and annually.
- Ensures licensed medical technicians, technologists, and histo techs perform 12 hours of continuing education annually.
- Responsible for all equipment maintenance schedules/service contracts and facilitating repairs.
- Facilitates testing for xylene and formalin exposure for Pathology employees upon hire and annually.
- Performs specimen audit for each section of the laboratory and annual review of each audit performed to ensure corrections maintained.
- Prepare agenda and compile reports for quarterly Pathology quality meetings. Prepare minutes from meeting.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and current NYS Medical Technologist license required.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience as a Medical Technologist.
- Previous leadership experience in a NYS certified lab recommended.
- Previous experience with histology and microbiology processes preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of individuals.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position includes supervisory responsibilities. To effectively support staff and ensure operational continuity, the incumbent is expected to work on-site and be available during regular laboratory operating hours. Any deviations from this expectation, including remote work or modified schedules, must be approved in advance by the Laboratory Director and supported by an appropriate coverage plan.
Expected Hours of Work:
An Employee must work a minimum of thirty (30) hours each week to maintain full-time status for benefits purposes, however the expectations of the position will require an average of forty (40) hours with overtime required as scheduled. Non-exempt employees are eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws, while exempt employees may be required to work additional hours as necessary to fulfill their job responsibilities. Overtime requirements will be determined based on the operational needs of the organization.
The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining an employee’s base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and internal equity). Premier Medical Group also offers a comprehensive set of benefits to compliment the base salary. The base annual salary range for this position is $93,000 - $104,000.
Travel Requirements: Will be required to travel to other sites based on operational needs.
Work Environment:
This position operates in a clinical outpatient setting and routinely involves direct interaction with patients, providers, and clinical staff. The work environment may involve exposure to infectious disease, bodily fluids, medical equipment, cleaning agents, and varying patient conditions. Standard precautions, PPE, and adherence to safety protocols are required at all times.
