Full Job Description

Hewitt is seeking a dedicated and experienced Quality Control Officer to support our SQF (Safe Quality Food) programme and oversee quality and food safety compliance on the production floor. This role is responsible for ensuring all fresh and cooked meat products meet company, customer, and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a meat manufacturing environment and have experience enforcing quality procedures, conducting inspections, and maintaining food safety compliance while working with raw materials.

About the Role

As a Quality Control Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining product quality, food safety, and regulatory compliance throughout the production process. You will work closely with Production, Sanitation, and Maintenance teams to ensure all processes adhere to SQF, HACCP, USDA, and GMP requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Product Quality

Perform routine inspections of raw materials, processing areas, packaging, and finished products.
Collect and analyse samples for microbiological, chemical, and physical testing.
Assist with internal and external audits, including SQF and USDA inspections.
Maintain accurate quality assurance logs, inspection forms, and documentation.
Provide coaching and guidance to production employees on SOPs and quality standards.
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to product quality and food safety.

Compliance & Food Safety

Monitor production processes and product quality throughout the facility.
Stop production when necessary to ensure food safety and compliance requirements are met.
Partner with Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, and other departments to maintain safe practices.
Ensure compliance with HACCP, SSOP, GMP, SQF, and related food safety programmes.
Monitor allergen control programmes and allergen management procedures.
Record, report, and track non-conformances and corrective actions.
Monitor sanitation and hygiene practices within the processing facility.

About You

You are detail-oriented, safety-focused, and committed to maintaining the highest quality standards. You enjoy working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and are confident communicating with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

You Will Bring

High School Diploma or GED required.
Food Safety certification or related training preferred.
Previous experience in food manufacturing, ideally within the meat processing industry.
Knowledge of HACCP, USDA, FSIS, SQF, GMP, and related food safety programmes.
Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and data entry.
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods

Work Environment

This is a hands-on production floor role requiring regular movement throughout the facility.

Full-time hourly position with regular overtime opportunities.
Standing, walking, bending, stooping, and lifting throughout the shift.
Temperature-controlled production environment (approximately 40°F).
Exposure to slippery floors, industrial equipment, cleaning chemicals, and sharp tools.
Safety equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), and required training are provided.
