Senior Accountant

Location: Shelton, CT
Work Schedule: Hybrid (3 days in Shelton, 2 days work from home)
Salary Range: $75,000–$82,000 per year

About the Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our accounting team in Shelton, CT. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with 3–5 years of experience who is looking to take ownership of a broad range of accounting responsibilities in a small, collaborative company environment. You will work closely with our CFO and be the most senior accounting professional on a small accounting team. While this is not a management position, the role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to independently manage core accounting responsibilities. What You'll Do

Reconcile sub-ledger accounts to general ledger balances and research discrepancies
Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules
Support monthly and year-end financial close processes
Prepare and post journal entries
Perform account reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records
Assist with reviewing and maintaining internal controls, including identifying and assessing areas of risk
Prepare and file sales tax returns
Assist with the annual financial statement audit and provide supporting documentation as needed
Work with AP and AR team members to resolve accounting discrepancies and ensure accurate financial records
Assist the CFO with accounting-related projects and analysis
Help us leverage AI and emerging technologies to improve accounting processes, increase efficiency, and reduce manual work
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and procedures
Maintain organized and accurate accounting records
Perform other accounting duties and projects as needed

What We're Looking For

3–5 years of progressive accounting experience
Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial close processes
Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative team member
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
Experience with Sage Intacct or similar accounting software
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
Experience with Power BI is a plus

Public Accounting Experience Welcome

Experience in a small or midsize public accounting firm is a plus. We are particularly interested in candidates who have gained experience preparing financial statements, performing reconciliations, supporting audits, working with multiple clients, and applying accounting principles in a practical business environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
Experience with sales tax compliance
Experience assisting with financial statement audits
Experience identifying and implementing accounting process improvements
Strong research and problem-solving skills
CPA or CPA-track experience is a plus, but not required
