Job Description Blown Film Machine Operator (Blown Film Extrusion Operator) Job Summary The Blown Film Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient setup, operation, monitoring, and basic maintenance of blown film extrusion equipment. This role converts plastic resins (such as LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, and multi-layer combinations) into high-quality plastic film used in packaging, agriculture, industrial, and other applications. The operator ensures film meets specifications for gauge (thickness), width, clarity, strength, and other quality parameters while minimizing waste and maximizing productivity. Key Responsibilities Set up and operate blown film extrusion lines (mono-layer or multi-layer), including extruders, dies, air rings, cooling systems, haul-off units, treaters, slitters, and winders according to production schedules and work orders. Load and blend resins, colorants, and additives; monitor material feed systems and maintain continuous supply. Adjust and control process parameters such as temperatures, screw speeds, air pressure, bubble stability, frost line height, line speed, and tensions to achieve target film specifications. Perform in-process quality checks using micrometers, gauges, and visual inspection for defects (e.g., gauge variation, gels, wrinkles, holes, or contamination); take corrective actions as needed. Conduct product changeovers, die changes, screen pack changes, and cleaning of dies, air rings, nip rolls, and other components. Remove finished rolls from winders, inspect for quality, weigh, label, package, and record production data, scrap, and downtime accurately. Perform routine preventive maintenance, cleaning, and minor troubleshooting of mechanical or process issues; report major problems to supervisors or maintenance. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; follow all safety, environmental, quality (e.g., ISO), and housekeeping standards (including 5S where applicable). Operate auxiliary equipment such as forklifts, roll carts, or overhead cranes as required (with proper certification). Complete production logs, shift reports, and any required documentation; communicate effectively with team members, quality control, and supervisors. Assist with training of new operators and support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and improve efficiency. Qualifications and Requirements High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required; technical diploma, ITI, or certification in plastics technology, mechanical, or related field preferred. 1–3+ years of experience operating blown film extrusion equipment preferred (multi-layer experience is aplus); manufacturing experience considered. Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools, measuring instruments (tape measure, micrometer), and read gauges/instruments. Ability to read and interpret work orders, technical specifications, and standard operating procedures. Basic math skills and computer literacy for data entry and reporting. Willingness to work rotating shifts (including nights, weekends, and overtime), stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks (lifting up to 50–75 lbs, bending, climbing). Forklift certification is often preferred or required. Preferred Skills and Attributes Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety. Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for process and minor equipment issues. Knowledge of common resins and additives used in blown film. Teamwork, reliable attendance, and effective communication skills. Ability to work independently while following procedures and supporting production goals. Working Conditions Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to noise, heat from equipment, moving machinery, and occasional fumes. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toe shoes is required. Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting, and repetitive motions.

Pay: $22.00 - $32.00 per hour
