JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITON: Head Color Guard Coach
REPORTS TO: Marching Band Director and Director of Arts & Innovation
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Performance and teaching experience in competitive fall and winter Color Guard at the high school
level (Collegiate, Winter Guard or Drum Corps experience are a bonus).
2. Choreographing experience for high school Color Guard including dance, flag, sabre, rifle, and props.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
GENERAL:
- Demonstrate a commitment to social justice, equity, excellence and high expectations for all students
and commitment to each student’s academic and personal well-being.
- Establish and manage student learning in a safe, positive, inclusive, and respectful learning community
– as a Color Guard unit (team within a team) and as members of the Wildkit Marching Band.
- Exhibit a high degree of professionalism.
- Communicate expectations, schedules, etc. to members, families, and staff routinely and through
archivable means.
- Collaborate on the cultivation of a shared vision and philosophy for the Wildkit Marching Band/Color
Guard and Winter Guard programs with all staff members.
FALL SPECIFIC:
1. Collaborate with the Wildkit Marching Band Staff in the creation of a show concept each winter for the
upcoming fall season, including song selection, conceptual input, visual components,
props/costumes/etc.
2. Choreograph routines in conjunction with the chosen music and drill to the main Half-time Show as
well as to the Pre-Game Show, NU outreach engagements, and pep/stands tunes for all fall
performances.
3. Instruct Color Guard students to the mastery of the routines and drill during all scheduled Wildkit
Marching Band rehearsals and performances – this includes June/July rehearsals for the July 4th
Parade, August Band Camp, all fall marching band rehearsals outside of the school day, and all
performances including home football games, competitions, NU outreach events, and any other
scheduled performance engagements (see schedule for specifics at www.ethsbands.com).
4. Schedule and facilitate instruction for one additional weekly rehearsal for Color Guard students
throughout the fall (August through October).
5. Facilitate a recruitment and try-out process each spring, including the 8th Grade Activity Fair at ETHS,
a trip to District 65 middle schools, and internal recruitment efforts prior to a try-out experience.
6. Select, size, and order all materials for the fall Color Guard experience in alignment with the chosen
show in advance of the start of the season. This includes all uniforms/costumes and equipment (flags,
rifles, sabers, props, etc.).
WINTER SPECIFIC:
1. Collaborate with band directors and assistant coach(es) on a show concept in the fall, including music
selection, tarp painting and set design, costumes, flags and props, staging and choreography.
