Summary:

Responsible for the implementation and enforcement of laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Assists the Director and Supervisor in overseeing daily operations within
the department by providing shift supervision of the officers, and role modeling appropriate practices and behaviors. Performs patrolling, surveillance, escorting, investigation and
intervention services in an effort to protect the safety and security of all patients, visitors, employees and physicians on hospital premises and police hospital buildings and grounds to reduce the probability of fire, theft and vandalism.

Responsibilities:
1.Oversees the daily shift operations of Security Officers, including assignments and training. Offers input for their annual performance evaluations.
2. Reviews Security Logs and other documentation created by Security Officers to identify security concerns, ensure follow-up, compliance with assigned duties, appropriateness and accuracy of documentation.
3. Communicates with appropriate management about security concerns identified. Works with department managers/directors to address/resolve any security issues identified.
4. Provides input for developing or updating policies to ensure safety and overall security.
5. Collaborates with Directors, Managers and staff to maintain a safe environment for staff, visitors, physicians and patients.
6. Responds to unusual or emergency situations using the appropriate escalation of force level up to a Taser response by following established protocol.
7. Will relieve/assist other Armed Officers with the day to day operations of the hospital Metal Detector.
8. Maintain proficiency in the use of all assigned protective equipment, restraint devices, Metal Detector, and Taser.
9. May act as a liaison with Law Enforcement and Fire Departments. Collaborates with Emergency Department Director or Designee to ensure appropriate communication with EMS.
10. Collaborates with appropriate discipline in making decisions regarding patient needs with the ability to evaluate those needs based on age, physical and mental status.
11. Patrols buildings and grounds of hospital, and observes for unsafe or illegal activity, and for doors/areas which are not secured.
12. Ensures that only authorized persons are permitted on hospital grounds.
13. Provides escort and assistance for visitors, patients and employees to and from all areas within the hospital property.
14. Responds to emergency calls for assistance to control disorderly conduct or combative patients, and participates in de-escalation of situation, including physical restraint if necessary.
15. Appropriately and effectively intervenes when unruly, abusive, combative, threatening or armed persons are encountered, ensuring that the safety of victims and bystanders.
16. Serves as a member of the Fire Team and responds to various alarms.
17. Investigates incidents of unusual circumstances of a civil and criminal nature reported by hospital staff, visitors, physicians or patients.
18. Provides assistance to patients, visitors and employees when vehicles won’t start, with flat tires or persons are locked out of their cars.
19. Writes incident reports and documents investigation steps and results.
20. Inspects outgoing parcels as necessary to reduce theft of hospital property.
21. Reports and/or removes all safety and fire hazards observed on routine patrols and inspections.
22. Transports cash, checks, other documents, equipment, supplies, and runs errands when requested.
23. Participates in, and responds to, all disaster alerts including Active Shooter, Bomb threats, external emergency, severe weather plans, and internal disaster plans.
24. Assist with traffic control by keeping fire lanes, fire hydrants, and ambulance entrances free of vehicles.
25. Maintains confidentiality of all matters regarding Johnston Health, its patients, employees and visitors.
26. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

High school graduate or equivalent.
Advanced schooling or training in Law Enforcement, Criminology, or other related program preferred.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

Must maintain a current North Carolina Private Protective Services Armed Security Officer Certification.
Must qualify with a score of 80 or higher on the weapon qualification course.
Must have valid North Carolina driver’s license and good driving record.
Maintain a current certification in CPI.
Remain current in Hands Only CPR.

Professional Experience Requirements:

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in security, law enforcement, US military or other government agency.
