Position Summary:
The Lead Inventory Technician is responsible for overseeing all aspects of inventory management, including receiving, tracking, organizing, and auditing cannabis products to ensure regulatory compliance, accuracy, and efficiency. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and knowledge of state regulations related to cannabis inventory control. The Lead Inventory Technician will work closely with store leadership, vendors, and compliance teams to maintain accurate stock levels and prevent discrepancies.
Key Responsibilities:Inventory Management & Control
- Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly inventory counts to ensure accuracy.
- Maintain real-time inventory tracking using dispensary POS and compliance software.
- Ensure all cannabis products are labeled correctly and meet state-mandated compliance requirements.
- Assist in product intake, verification, and reconciliation of shipments from suppliers.
- Monitor stock levels and work with management to prevent overstocking or product shortages.
- Update digital assets and manage online/mobile orders
Compliance & Regulatory Adherence
- Maintain full compliance with state cannabis laws, METRC (or state tracking system), and company policies.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and documentation of all cannabis products.
- Regularly audit inventory to identify discrepancies and ensure 100% accuracy.
- Prepare and submit required inventory reports to regulatory agencies as needed.
- Train dispensary staff on inventory control best practices and compliance guidelines.
Receiving & Product Organization
- Verify incoming shipments, ensuring product count, quality, and labeling accuracy.
- Organize and store products in a manner that ensures safe handling and efficient stock rotation (FIFO method).
- Work with vendors to resolve discrepancies, damaged goods, or incorrect shipments.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure inventory storage area.
Loss Prevention & Security
- Identify and prevent inventory shrinkage, theft, or diversion of cannabis products.
- Monitor and report any suspicious activity or inventory discrepancies to management.
- Implement security protocols to protect high-value inventory.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Assist in training and mentoring inventory team members.
- Work closely with the sales team to ensure inventory accuracy in the POS system.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to prepare inventory for promotions and new product launches.
- Act as a liaison between vendors, compliance officers, and dispensary management.
Qualifications & Skills:
- 2+ years of inventory management experience (cannabis, retail, warehouse, or logistics preferred).
- Strong understanding of cannabis compliance regulations and inventory tracking systems (e.g., METRC, BioTrack, or similar).
- High level of attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in POS and inventory management software.
- Basic math skills and ability to perform inventory-related calculations.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills to handle vendor and team interactions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Must be 21+ years old and pass all state-required background checks.
