Shelter Insurance – Elkhart, IN

Overview

Join our growing Shelter Insurance agency in Elkhart as a Customer Service Representative (English/Spanish).

This is more than a typical customer service position. You'll be one of the first people our customers interact with and will play an important role in helping individuals, families, and local businesses understand and manage their insurance.

We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys helping people, communicates well, takes pride in their work, and wants the opportunity to grow.

You'll work directly with the Agency Owner in a local, relationship-focused environment where your ideas, effort, and performance matter.

For the right person, this position can become much more than a CSR role. As the agency grows, there will be an opportunity to take on additional responsibility and potentially work toward becoming an affiliate of the agency. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to build a career in insurance and potentially have an ownership-level role in the future.

Responsibilities

Serve as a friendly and professional first point of contact for customers by phone, email, and in person.
Provide customer service in both English and Spanish if applicable.
Answer questions regarding policies, billing, coverage, and general insurance needs.
Assist customers with policy changes, payments, documents, claims-related questions, and other service needs.
Maintain accurate customer records and complete data entry using agency systems and Microsoft Office.
Make outbound calls to follow up with customers, schedule appointments, request information, and identify opportunities to help customers with additional insurance needs.
Build strong relationships with customers and provide an experience that makes them want to continue doing business with our agency.
Listen to customers and identify opportunities where additional coverage may benefit them, including home, auto, life, business, rental property, and other insurance products.
Assist with quoting and sales activities as your knowledge and experience grow.
Follow up with prospects and existing customers in a professional and organized manner.
Support agency marketing, community events, and local relationship-building efforts.
Work closely with the Agency Owner to help grow the agency and improve the customer experience.
Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail at all times.

Qualifications

Fluent in English and Spanish preferred — strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Comfortable talking with people on the phone and in person.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to multitask and prioritize in a busy office environment.
Comfortable using computers, email, Microsoft Office, and learning new software.
Previous insurance, customer service, sales, banking, or office experience is a plus but not required.
Previous call center or outbound calling experience is helpful but not required.
Must be willing to learn the insurance industry and obtain required licensing as the role develops.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is dependable, motivated, coachable, and genuinely enjoys helping people.
