Full Job Description

Fabtec Manufacturing, Inc. – Franklin Park, IL
Pay: $30–$40 per hour, based on experience
Full-time | Overtime available

Fabtec Manufacturing is looking for a highly experienced Senior Manual Lathe Machinist who can independently set up and operate large manual lathes while producing precision parts from drawings.

This is not repetitive production work. We manufacture and repair custom components used in heavy industrial machinery. Our work includes large shafts, rolls, spindles, gears, threaded parts, and one-of-a-kind components.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate manual engine lathes independently
Machine large, heavy, and long components
Read and interpret blueprints, tolerances, and machining specifications
Select tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining sequences
Perform turning, facing, boring, threading, tapering, grooving, and drilling operations
Inspect completed work using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and other precision measuring tools
Troubleshoot machining problems and make adjustments without constant supervision
Work with other machinists and team members to solve machining problems and determine the best way to complete difficult jobs
Accurately log machining time and work performed on each job
Safely rig and move heavy parts using overhead cranes
Maintain quality while working efficiently
Help guide and train less-experienced machinists when needed

Required Experience

10+ years of manual lathe machining experience
Strong manual setup and troubleshooting ability
Experience working from blueprints
Ability to hold close tolerances
Experience machining steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, bronze, and similar materials
Experience with large or heavy components strongly preferred
Comfortable handling custom and low-volume work
Ability to communicate and work well with other machinists when solving difficult machining problems
Reliable attendance, accurate job documentation, and strong attention to detail

This position is for an experienced manual machinist. Applicants whose experience is primarily CNC operation must also have substantial hands-on manual lathe experience.
